Triathlon Thread 2009

Liz-
Good luck this weekend. The forecast looks dry but cool. Better than warm and raining.

PM me...I'm thinking of riding at noon or so today.

the start and stop are VERY close to my house...within 300 yards...

Mike

sk8ingmom - thx for the link! Love rails to trails. Rode the Mickelson Trail out west couple years ago.

Todd - thx! Wishing it was a little warmer but at least they moved the rain.

Mike/Todd - we should meet up for a ride one of these days. I'm definitely up for the next Wed eve ride.

Mike - EndureIt doesn't rent. Urban Tri has 100 rentals out.

So have my wet suit and look like a pro :lmao::rotfl2: Well at least I won't freeze in the water. Patrick wants to take lots of pictures :confused3 so sure there will be some here next week. Don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

Tomorrow is expo, packet pick up , etc. Might do a real short casual ride or maybe a nice walk - provided the rain holds off.

Question: about how far ahead of starting do you put the wetsuit on? Know I'll have some time between the elite start and me. Figuring I'll want it on just not pulled up until after they start, yes?

Thx!

The wetsuit should make you feel and look like a superhero. :rotfl2:Toni has told me many times that if my wetsuit was green, I would look like the Grinch.:lmao:

I usually try to have the thing totally on early enough so you can get in the water and let it fill (get a layer of water between you and the wetsuit). This happens naturally when you get in the water of course. You want that layer of water to warm up. The logical thing to do is to try to swim a little bit at that time to help warm up for the race.

Don't forget the body glide or suit juice in the obvious locations but also the around your neck and arm holes if the suit is sleeveless.

Would be a good idea to get in the water early, duh. I've worn wetsuits for scuba but it has been a very long time.

Picked up SuitJuice for ease of getting thing on plus around neck (always had irritation there). This is sleeveless so will apply there too.

Thx!

Grinch...:lmao:

You can always pee in the wetsuit to warm it up, too.

Oh, yeah, it's a rental. Maybe not.
It's a reflex now with me, as soon as I get in the water, to pee. :goodvibes

I put my wetsuit on up to the waist about 20 min before time to start...that way I have time to adjust it, etc. (or earlier, if I need to get a warmup swim in before the first wave goes off). Then put it on the rest of the way while the wave or two in front of me is staging in the water.

Good luck!

I'm doing the Kansas 70.3 this weekend. Haven't gotten good training in due to a cold, but I feel better now, and we'll see what happens on race day!

I intended to ride 24 miles on Friday, before realizing I had errands to tend to, and a dinner with a visiting friend from out of town. Oh well.

Rode 12:77 this morning, with two segments of hill work.

Now we're off to the waterpark.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

Well, it's official. I am a triathlete!! Wasn't the best, had some problems but learned couple very important lessons so I'll be in better shape for the next one. Yes, I enjoyed it enough that despite the setbacks, I will do another. I set out to finish and I did so I am a winner in my book (after I picked apart my performance  )

Will work on a race report later today.

Mike - Patrick & I decided we'd like to see an Ironman (we've watched video of some) and found the info on the Madison Ironman. That's the one you're doing right? We're thinking of volunteering early in the day then hanging out.

...........She Rocks--a female-only tri, new this year, at Waterloo Recreation Area, Michigan. It's a Sprint---and now I have 10 days to freak.:scared1:

Hey, I was thinking (yeah, stop laughing)...

We're all on different walking and running teams, but we don't have a name for the triathletes here.

What about King Triton's Triathletes, or Timon's Triathletes. Any other ideas?

Can you tell I'm bored.

Happy Aloha Friday WISHers. It's time to pau hana, and suck 'em up!

Thursday's training involved 8 1/4 miles by feet, 1:10. 14 miles by bike, 1:20.

Starving when I was done, priceless. LOL.

Happy Friday! Only 7 hrs to go until the weekend starts!

Last night was weight/core work. Tonight is rest (well errands), Sat long bike (20-30 miles) then Sat is later day run along lakefront followed by an open swim intro/clinic.

Jeff - Kinda liking Triton's Triathletes.

Have a great weekend!
