Check out the TrekPod Go Pro. I bought one for a trip to the Galapagos because it was lightweight. I had weight and space limits on luggage. It is carbon fiber, comes in 4 sections that simply screw together, and is either a monopod, tripod, or a hiking stick. It's not as flexible as a tripod as you can't adjust the legs individually and it only goes up and down so much. However, I like it more than a monopod. In tight spots it can be used as a monopod. If I need more stability, I can pop open three legs at the bottom. I have used it with my Canon 7D and a 100-400 lens. It held it up alone, but I wouldn't normally let go of it.
