Treehouse Villas?

Sorry if there is a thread elsewhere...

Can anyone tell me about the treehouse villas--we saw them next to Saratoga Springs yesterday. I remembered them years ago in Disney advertising.

Are they in use now or does Disney have plans for them at some time?

We were there a few weeks ago and the boat driver said they would eventually be part of the Saratoga Springs. I'm not sure if this is fact but this is what we were told.

I was recently told that there is some sort of asbestos problem or something that makes it difficult to refurbish or tear down. I see them down one side of a fairway every time I play the golf at LBV. I don't know how they will tie these into the SSR without ruining the golf course in the process...

I was told last month by the boat driver,as we passed them on the way to DTD from POR,that Disney would indeed refurbish them and re-open them,possibly in about a year.The electricity was still on in them,so it did appear they have plans for them.They look like a cool place to stay.

I played golf at LBV in January and went up to one to look into the window. (Of course my ball went into the woods). You could tell it hadn't been used in a long time. Stuff was being stored in there with a couple of mattresses on their sides. It was sad.

We passed them last week on the boat ride from POR to DTD. Our captain said that they will be refurbished because they are on wetlands, and if they tear them down, they won't be able to build anything on that land. I have no idea what they will be used for.

on my last visit at easter i was also told that they will be part of ssr, cool, i hope so, i am going to do an add on at ssr, so i hope so, it would be fun to stay there.

Another board I visit indicates that there has been significant refurbishment there and that they might re-open near the New Year's. Reportedly the pool was up and running, crystal clear, etc.

I tried asking there for a link to pictures. Does anyone here know of a source?

No info about opening on new year's but the rumor page has a thread on this...

They will eventually be reopened but no one knows when.

Last month a DVC rep told us that Disney was trying to get the protected status removed from the treehouses and surrounding wetlands so that they could be torn down and replaced with other accommodations.

I'd love to see them refurbished, since I think they are really cool!!!! I'd definitely stay in one at some point, especially if they became part of SSR and I could use DVC points!

We stayed in the treehouses twice and absolutely loved them. If they become part of SSR then Im in.
