We are thinking about staying at the Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villas. I have a couple of questions before booking. Can we request a certain Treehouse number or do we take what the give us? If we can request, which Treehouses should we request and for what reason? What are the pros and cons of getting a Treehouse vs. 2 bedroom accommadations. Thanks for any input. Also, we own Saratoga Springs so we will be at the 11 month window.

Any requests would be just that--a request and not guaranteed. We have not stayed in them so I can't help you out with the other part of your question.

Good luck!

You can request all you want, whether you get it or not is another question. I think you will have better luck requesting a specific area vs an actual Treehouse. For instance we like to request a water view. DVC has always been pretty good at honoring our requests. Other requests could be near bus stop, near walking trail, or near pool. The main advantage to a Treehouse vs a 2 bedroom to me is, with the Treehouse you are getting a 3 bedroom for the points of a 2 bedroom.

If you request a specific villa your odds of getting it are very slim. You have to hope that someone is checking out of that villa the same day that you are checking in...plus that someone else didn't want the same villa (or similar request). Also, with the THV's they are new and some of the things like views are difficult to determine just based off the maps, etc.

I would make a simple broad request, based on my circumstances of how I plan to use transportation. If you have a car and plan on driving yourself most places, I would request near the north bus stop, it is near the entrance to the villas and will be easy to get in and out of the area. The roads are narrow and you can get stuck behind busses and other cars. If you plan on using resort transportation, I would request near the South bus stop. This is close to the walkway to Granstand (so you don't have to ride the shuttle for park busses, just walk over to Grandstand), closer to the THV's quiet pool and the ferry dock for DTD.

For the record, the THV's area may look big on the map, but look at it on the big map that also has SSR, the area is not huge and is about the same size as a section of SSR, so even if you are near the north bus stop, the walk to the ferry dock, is about the equivalent of walking from the furtherst springs building to the main pool, etc.....maybe 5 minutes tops. It is a pleasant area and the walks aren't bad if you put them in perspective, it is just heavily wooded, so it may seem far looking at the maps. :thumbsup2

As far as THV's vs 2 Bedrooms, I like the layout better. You have more room for the dining room table, but less room between the tv and sofa. Same number of beds, but three rooms, so sleeping arrangements with multiple families, kids of varying ages, etc is much easier. The feel much more like a house than a condo to me.

I would also put in a request for location. If you have a car, you will want to be near the main entrance, and if you don't, you will probably want to be closer to the Grandstand section of SSR.

We requested water view and we got water side but the foliage was so dense that we couldn't see water from any location in our villas. The trees/shrubs were right up against the windows so there wasn't even much daylight coming in on that side (both of the smaller bedroom windows).

I was not a fan of the THV. We have stayed at all of the DVC resorts except BLT and THV was our least favorite. I didn't like being so far from the main pool/activities. Even with a car, it felt remote. I've stayed at SSR 5 times in all of the sections except Carousel and I never felt as far away from everything as I did at THV. We might have enjoyed it more if the mosquitos had not been so bad that we couldn't sit out on the deck at all. Most people seem to love it there though.

Only have have been declared into DVC inventory which puts it at about 30. I called early on my 11 month mark and got the last one available for a 4 night stay this past year.

Thanks for all of the information. Now I think I know what request to ask for. Thanks for all replys.

Aren't all of the tree house villas elevated? I didn't see where this was mentioned. If anyone in your party uses a wheelchair or electric scooter, you will need an accessible unit (with ramp) and it's my understanding that there are only four (4) of those. Not sure if that is the number in the total or just the 30 set aside for DVC.

We stayed at a THV in July and loved it! We did have a good location (7031). We were right by a bus stop and a short walk from the pool, boat and walkways. Basically, anything in the south half is pretty good (7015-7040 or 7055-7062). While there is a bus stop at the north end, the pool, boat and walkways are all atthe south end. Tht being said, the whole area is pretty compact (especially compared to some of the more sprawling resorts).

The third bedroom, capacity of 9 and the bunck beds were all big pluses for us. Also the layout is great. In the 2 bedrooms, you have a lot of space in the entrance hallways that isn't really used - here all is used well. While the bedrooms and overall square footage is smaller, it doesn't feel like it. The roomy deck also helps.

We were there during a September-like hot spell in late July/early August and the THV was very comfortable. While we had to get maintenance to override our thermostat at BLT to get the room even moderately cool, the THV with it's fan, high ceilings and shady setting was always comfortable.

The furnishings are quite nice too, making it a very visually appealing place to stay.

We did have a car, but the couple of times we used the buses we had very short waits. It is an idea resort if you have a car because you will generally be able to park right next to your unit.

While I did really like the 60's style of BLT and it's location, my family loved the THV even more. We even had 8 people over during dinner (one not dining) and did not feel the least bit cramped (not so in other 2BR). I think 9 folks could stay their easily without feeling jammed.
