Hi,
We were talking to FI's grandparents today about our disneymoon, and they were telling us about how friends of theirs went to wdw and stayed in a hotel that was actually a tree house. I don't know how long ago this was, but I have never heard of this. The only thing I could think of was maybe they mixed up what was said and thought the Swiss Family Treehouse was the hotel???? Has anyone heard of this?
Thanks!

Yes, it was the old Treehouse resort place near Old Key West and Saratoga Springs that you can still see there. I never stayed there as a kid, but our friend's family always did and they LOVED it. There are a lot of people who were very fond of it. I hear different stories, but basically, after a big hurricane the place was in bad shape so they no longer use it. I have heard some interns stay there off and on, and the lights and air conditioning are on...I guess they are fully furnished, etc. I really want to sneak around on one of our trips to Old Key West, it's so tempting! Others may know more.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I guess it's true what they say....you learn something new everyday on the DIS! Too bad it's not still in use for tourists!

Yep, utahkennedys, they use the Disney Institute Treehouses for housing CMs now.

I guess they can't be used for tourists anymore because of ADA laws and accessibility.

They're still easy to see if you drive along the road that takes you in kind of behind DTD and SSR... I can't remember what it's called - come out of FW and take a left, towards the 535, though:teeth:

:sunny:

We stayed there growing up... they were so great. And had a ton of room. I wish they would bring them back.

You can see them if you stay at PO and boat to DTD. They cool very cool! It is too bad we can't stay there anymore!

back in 1997. It was just myself, DH, and 2 other couples...before we all had kids!! What a blast!!! Very private and tons of space!!!! They had 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, 3 bathrooms and a living room. The price was very reasonable too!
I didn't know they don't use them for guests any longer...what a shame!!!:sad2:

They're looking pretty sad now. :sad1: You can see videos of them (inside and out) if you search youtube for disney treehouse villas.

disney can't.

because of the wetlands - disney can't tear down and fix. So they are stuck with them.

they can repair - but that is all.

they need a complete rehaul - but since Disney can't. they use them for International CM but only when the place that they would normally send them is too busy. So several months out of the year they just sit there.

they use to allow OKW guests to wonder the grounds. but lately Disney has fenced the area off.

oooh, thanks for the tip! We stayed there in the 1980s. I remember feeling so kewl driving a golf cart around as a teen!

We stayed there in 1994 & really loved it there so quiet after a loooong day in the park. It was really a peaceful area.
