Warning: this post may be too gory for weak stomachs! :p

As most of you know, I had a BAD fall in Orlando on vacation.

It was fine while I was being catered to by the resort but now I have to face the REAL world looking like a MONSTER!

I hate this. I have changed my hair to cover my eye and wear glasses and a hat and people stare at me for that! The eye is swollen shut and has a HUGE knot over my eyebrow and now it's black and red all the way down my cheek... YUK!

Does anyone have a home treatment that works? If you've had one how long did it last. I hate to pass a mirror now but I seriously look like the Elephant man!

I am NOT an animal, I am a HUMAN!!

{{hugs}} Robin.:( I'm sorry about your fall.:( I don't have any great advice. Maybe at night you can apply cold compresses on the swollen areas to help them go down?

I don't have any suggestions for you Robin. I hope you get better soon. Just remember your still beautiful!

A good home remedy for swelling is Preparation H. I'm not sure how useful it would be in this situation though. *HUGS* to you, Robin.

This is a situation where those Afghan burqua's would come in handy.

Afghan Bruquas LOL@ Olena

Robin so sorry about your fall. I did the same thing a few years ago. I had a very bad black eye, and I was on vacation with my DW and son. I just told everyone that DW beat the crap out of me:D

As far as remedies go. Sorry there sis only time will heal that wound. It takes about 10 days.

((((Hugs))))

Thanks for the smiles, everyone!

I guess it doesn't help that I have a mirror right next to my monitor! :earseek:

I have been using the compresses, but they are hard to keep to my face. Did I mention I hurt my wrist and arm on this stupid fall? Not to mention the row of black bruises down my leg... :(

Ten days?!! I guess I'll continue scaring small children till then! :teeth:

When my nephew had a black-eye a few weeks ago, he put a moistened tea bag over it and ice too. It was wasn't as severe as yours. But, it did help with the swelling and it seemed to go disappear in a few days. I do hope that you feel better real soon. A black eye is no fun at all.

I hate to pass a mirror now but I seriously look like the Elephant man!

I know that there was no disrespect intended, but I have the disorder that he was at one time thought to have. Studies discovered years ago, that he had proteus and not neurofibromatosis.

Try the inside of a banana peel. My mom fell yesterday morning. After a trip to the ER, no major damage, but a big black eye and extremely swollen/lacerated lip.

It will just take time :(

Doxdogy, I am so sorry. I should've known better because my neice suffers from neurofibromatosis. I had no idea that his disorder is now considered proteus. I will definitely do some research on this because I was so interested in his life. Forgive my reference and know I meant no disrespect at all. :(

Rita thank you for that awesome link! All the ones I found on google were nowhere as informative as this one.

Chuck, I'm so sorry about your Mom! My Mom once fell through a plate glass window at a fast food store. I remembered when I fell how badly my son must've felt because it's much harder watching someone you love suffer than yourself. I hope she heals soon!

I hope all your bruising clears up fast and you feel better real soon, Robin.:D

Once I fell off a chair and took a chunk out of my chin and ripped up my jawline almost 2/3 of the way to me ear. 80 stiches inside, 40 outside. I went everywhere with the little steri strips on. Then, I had a full face lift, neck lift, brow lift, chin liposuction and upper eye lid surgery, and went everywhere after about a week. Yes, I was bruised, swolen, and stitchy, but I just went about my business. I did use ice as the dr told me to, but I guess I am just not that concerned with people staring at me. I never even gave it a thought, although DH was mortified, like I was doing it to embarass him.

Hope you feel better soon, anyway Robin. At least your vacation was not too ruined.

Don't think I'd try this, but I read once in an older medical book that reducing the size of swelling for black eyes was actually one of the few things that leeches ARE good for. (I think I'd rather have the black eye, myself!)

Sorry to hear about your fall. Leeches...eewwwwwwwwww:eek:

I have never tried it... but I have also heard that preparation H works to reduce swelling. Just rub a little into the swollen skin areas... and it draws away the swelling. Won't help with the discoloration etc though.. and unfortunately... it will turn a couple of shades of yellow and orange before it is done healing. :(

Sorry you had such a nasty fall Robin. I have been away on vaction for about a week now... so I missed the original post... did you at least do it while doing something really fun?!

Robin - welcome home. I'm so sorry about your fall and subsequent battle scars. Until you are all healed - you may have to use make-up to help conceal some of the bruising. {{{HUGS}}}

Yikes, mickeyfan1! I know I sound vain but I still can't get over that little baby who took one look at me and screamed her head off!

Juliewent: I think I'll keep the BLACK EYE!! :earseek:

Poohbear: YO Miami! Michael says Hi back!

DoubleD: I think the fall actually MADE my vacation. Just think, I have so much to tell people now! :teeth:

Nancy: Hey you! I'll be checking on a makeup Tuffcookie told me about. It will look funny if I have to go on an interview looking like this.... :(

Thanks to everyone else. I guess, like mentioned, my life is Ice and time! not leeches, though....
