GoodFairies and boyfriend, both 26, taking a quick weekend trip.

08/13
Arrived just in time before airport and roads were basically shut down. Lots of RVs in the PO parking and we found out that many Fort Wilderness campers were sent there. The CMs were jokingly calling it the Port Orleans Truck Stop. Checked in at POFQ around 5:45 pm (no line) and noticed a huge crowd of people standing in the lobby. Walked over and peeked around the corner--it was the line for the food court. There must have been hundreds of people there waiting to get into the food court. We went to our room to unpack and returned to main building around 6:30 pm to eat, at which point we were told to go back to our room and stay put. The food court was closing down and we couldn't get any food. We hadn't been told this at check-in but it would have been nice if they had. We hadn't eaten since an early lunch and were pretty hungry at this point. There was nothing to do that night except watch TV and sleep.

08/14
We had a Segway Tour scheduled this morning but couldn't get any information on whether it was cancelled or not. There were messages on our phone but we couldn't access them, and the front desk couldn't tell us the content. Called the operator but were on hold for an hour while getting ready so we just figured that we'd head over to Epcot and find out. Bus service was running light and slow that morning so we waited for about 45 minutes for a bus. When we finally got there, I asked a CM while we were waiting in line to get our AP vouchers exchanged if the tour was happening because we were missing it and what should we do about it. I was told that all tours were cancelled for the day and that we should go to guest services to refund or reschedule. When I went there, all they did was give me the tour number to call. I had tried calling several times throughout the day but the hold times were long.

Attractions: Epcot, Magic Kingdom

Breakfast: french toast sticks and bacon at Electric Umbrella.
(This tasted like gourmet food after not eating for almost a day).

Lunch: Marrakesh
Really good as was our previous experience here. Beef brewat rolls for appetizer, lamb couscous and lamb meshoui with rice for entrees. We really could have shared one of these. We each ate only about half of our lamb legs and both of us had couscous/rice left over. Mint tea and specialty coffees were good as well--I believe we had the Kasbah and the Casablanca. The belly dancer was entertaining and cute.

Dinner: From being stuffed from lunch we did not really get hungry until much later that evening. We decided to go to Kona Cafe for appetizers, desserts, and coffee. We got there and they had a buffet style "hurricane menu" for $18.95 which looked like some of 'Ohana's menu and some regular food. They mentioned that they had done the same for breakfast. Because we wanted to eat light, this didn't work for us. I asked when they were going to be back to normal because we had a breakfast PS scheduled there for Monday. They said they should be back to normal by then. We hopped on the monorail to the Contemporary and went to the food and fun center for some quick food--salad, chili fries, and peanut butter dessert.

08/15
Got up early again to check on the Segway tour for today and ended up rescheduling it for 08/16. Since this would be our scheduled Kona breakfast day, we decided to go today instead.

Attractions: MGM, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney

Breakfast:
We went to Kona Cafe and the menu was back to normal. We had tonga toast, banana-pecan pancakes, bacon, and the Kona coffee presspot. Everything was super good.

Dinner:
We got caught in a torrential downpour at Animal Kingdom so we went to AKL to hang out before dinner at Boma. After looking around in the store, we sat in chairs by the fire to dry out for a couple of hours and it was very relaxing. This was our second time at Boma for dinner and again enjoyed it very much. Tried almost everything on the buffet.

08/16
The Segway tour day.

Attractions: Epcot, Magic Kingdom

Segway Tour: We did the 9:30 tour and had to check in at 9:15. This put us at Epcot for rope drop and it was like a huge cattle call. We decided to do this tour at the recommendation of his parents who loved it and are taking it again. Boyfriend really liked it (he had ridden one before on the Cruise) but while I enjoyed it overall, I probably wouldn't do it again. It requires too much concentration than I like to have to give while on vacation. I am not all that graceful to begin with and I kept saying I was a danger to myself and others. I sort of lagged behind the group, and thankfully didn't hurt anyone or any ducks.

Lunch: Beaches & Cream. There was an odor in the restaurant that was a bit off-putting, but the food was good. We had a hot dog and a burger and fries. No room for desserts.

Headed to airport around 4:30 for our flight home.

The weather threw off our plans a bit. Getting soaked all the way through everyday (even in ponchos) and getting up that early everyday just to find out about the tour wasn't fun, but a hurricane in Disney is still better than a nice day at work.

Edited to add:
I forgot to tell anything about how we liked the resort/room. We had stayed at POR a couple of times before and wanted to try POFQ. We were able to get a Passholder rate and so that gave us a good opportunity to try it out. Our room was in a good location, building 5, with a waterview although we had not requested one. The room was perfect and clean. When we took our showers the first time we noticed it wouldn't drain so we left a note for the housekeeper since we didn't have time to call maintenance. (Had to get out the door for those tours, you know). When we came back, it was fine and never clogged up again. We found towels made into a shirt and tie on one of our returns to the room which was pretty cute. We never did try the food court at all though. Bus service was slow but chalked it up to the weather situation. Pretty resort, nice looking pool (although we never got to swim) and we would stay there again.

I would of panicked about the food court closing as I am diabetic and have to eat. Not informing you at check in was not nice.

We were not informed that the food court at POP was going to close either. We ate there at 1:30 after the parks closed, and I asked a cashier and she said they would be open normal time.

At 6:30 we went down for dinner and found out it was closed. THey handed out free chips and that was dinner. (along with a snickers bar from a vending machine).

A castmember did come around with a handout about 7:30 to the rooms telling us to stay in our room and close the curtains, and move to the far end of the room. THere were also messages on the phone updating us about the parks both on Charley day and the day after. IF you went to the park on the day of Charley, since they closed at 1, your day was free. (have an AP so that did not matter to me).

Except for the food thing, I thought Disney did a good job. THey had three disney movies running on their channels to entertain the guests. COurse, at POP. many guests were outside watching the storm (me included), until the winds got so strong I thought I would be blown off the balcony. During the center of the storm, we spent it in the bathroom (kids in the tub), with the t.v. on full blast. Quite an experiene.

We were part of your "Truck Stop". It did get a little tight on parking all those RVs. The food court closed with people still in line waiting to be served. We were lucky we had already ordered our food. Believe me there were a lot of people that were not happy campers!

POFQ was very pretty and the staff was great!

I agree that Beaches N' Cream does have an off-putting odor. It smells every time we go there. Kind of like a sour trash smell. It's what I smell when we go to the State Fair of Texas and trash has been left out in the heat. Even so, we still go to Beaches n' Cream often.
