Travelling with folks not on DDP

We have a trip planned for May. I'm 99% certain I'm going to use the DDP for my family (My husband, me, 3 kids--who will then be 7,4, and 2.)

My parents will be coming with us. They likely won't use the plan as they won't be eating enough to make it worth their while.

I was looking at some of the fun places to go for the table service meals. I would like the option for my parents to join us for those meals (and maybe they'd just get an appetizer or split a full meal.) But some of the meals, like the Biergarten in Epcot, they may not want to join us when the time comes because it would be a full buffet. Or they may.

Can I make reservations for all of us and then they can decide then whether they want to go? Or should I make two seperate reservations one for my family, one for them. Then they decide on that day and we cancel theirs potentially? Is there a minimum time to cancel?

Thanks for any info!

In most cases it will be okay if you make an ADR for your full party size and then show up with less. The biggest exceptions are for those locations that require a pre-pay or deposit (e.g., CRT, HDDR, etc.). Those places have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you do make ADRs for two smaller groups there is the potential that you will not be seated together or even near each other.
