Hi

This is my first time travelling with contact lenses. I've got the daily lenses so I'll just be bringing what I need. My question is do I have to put them in my check bag or can they be a carry on? They're in those small bubblepack type containers with a minute amount of liquid. Do I get those hand checked?

Hi

This is my first time travelling with contact lenses. I've got the daily lenses so I'll just be bringing what I need. My question is do I have to put them in my check bag or can they be a carry on? They are in liquid, so they have to fit in your 1 litre zip plastic bag if you want them in carry on. Considering how small they are, that should be no problem. They can still go through the scanner, it won't harm them. You just pop your liquids bag out of your carry on and place it in the tray separately.

If you are bringing a big bunch (2 weeks say?) pack enough for a 2-3 days in your carry-on in case your bags are delayed. That way you have time to get more if your bag is actually hopelessly lost. At least that's what I do...

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll do the thing where you have some in your checked luggage and some in carry on. Thanks!

If you can't function without them then you should put all of them in your carry on. Also, make sure to bring several extra pairs....I wear dailies and sometimes they rip before you use them.

Contacts do not count towards your liquid allotment.
I wear dailies and have them packed in a seperate small zip lock bag. I also have a 100ml solution in with them because I will sometimes cheat and wear the dailies for two days. I always pack them in my carry on.
I just came back from Disneyworld and had 14 days worth of contacts in one zip lock bag and another zip lock with my travel shampoo, toothpaste, hairspray etc. when I left Toronto.
I have been doing this since the liquid ban came into effect and I have never had a problem.
They are a medical nessessity and I cannot see without them.

The PP is correct. If you go to the TSA website you will see that contact lenses and lens solution are exempt from the normal liquids restrictions. Pack them in your carryon in a separate clear plastic ziploc and remove it from your bag along with the other bag of liquids for inspection.

I stand corrected. You can take saline in quantities greater than 100ml in carry on. I would suggest checking CATSA (Canadian) as well as TSA (American) for flights originating in Canada. There are a handful of notable differences in screening requirements between the screening agencies.

I always have my contacts and solution with me on board in a separate bag to the regular liquids.
