travelling with an infant

Has anyone ever travelled with a 10 month old? I would like to take advantage of a special postcard offer, but am unsure about travelling with a 10 month old. I also have a 5 year old. Help?

We took our DD on her first trip when she was 9 months. We had a blast!! There was so much for her to do. She enjoyed the shows and parades. She wasn't afraid of the characters, and she got so much special attention from them. We did breakfast with the princesses in the castle, and we have video and pictures of them hugging and cuddleing and Cindy even gave her a big kiss!! It was priceless and DD was smiling away. She went on most of the rides in Fantasyland and slept through some other rides in MK and the other parks. She was formula fed at the time along with baby food, so, I just pre measured powder formula in bottles, carried with me a bottle of water and added it when it was time to feed her. We bought her own stroller that reclined and it had a shade and she took naps in it sometimes at the parks. She slept fine in the crib in the hotel. We even drove down from NY and she pretty much slept the whole time except for when she was hungry!!(we did most of the driving at night) You can have a package with baby extras such as diapers sent to your hotel be fore you leave so you don't have to travel with it all. While you are feeding the baby your DH can take your other child on some rides, they can have some quality time, so she/he doesn't feel like they're missing out. And you could take turns doing this. They're only a few rides you won't be able to do as a family. My DD is going on her 4th trip this Sept. and she is only 3!! She loves it and we all enjoy looking at the pictures and video, it was a great trip, definitely do it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Oh, one more thing, each park has a baby center, with highchairs, couches, rocking chairs, micro waves and they sell all baby essentials. they have cozy quiet areas for breastfeeding as well.

Go for it - just be prepared to adjust to the baby's schedule. You'll have a blast. We took our 4yo and 7mo in Feb and had a great time!

I took my 4mo last month. It was much easier than I expected. He doesn't usually nap much at home, while we were there though he napped about 3 or 4 times a day. We took him on a lot of rides.

I use Playtex nursers. I carried 2 bottle holders, a bunch of dropins, small rubbermaid container with powdered formula and bottled water. It hardly took up any room at all.

One thing I learned the hard way is, carry a change of clothes in a ziplock bag. I had a change of clothes and sweatshirt in a plastic shopping bag. We came out of HISTA to discover there had been a downpour, the stroller parking area isn't covered, everything was soaked even though it was in plastic. We had to buy a beach towel and a new outfit, since all he was wearing was a onesy, and it was getting chilly after the rain.

Do it! We took my DD to Disneyland when she was 5 monthes. We had such a great time we took her back to Disney World at 11 monthes. I did not want to go at first. It was an extended family trip and I kept saying no she is too little. I was so glad my mom insisted ( having Grandma with us did help), she rode all the little rides even the astro orbitor. She loved it. I was glad that we didn't miss out on the family time and have such special memories. Just plan nap time, and take lots and lots of film!

I agree with all the previous posts and would just like to add one more suggestion. We took my daughter when she was 9 mos. old and used a front carrier. We have the Baby Bjorn carrier--she was old enough to face forward (away from Mom or Dad). She LOVED it, she was high up enough to see everything, and it was great not to have to take her out of her stroller everytime we went on a ride or into an attraction. At night, we just turned her around to face whoever was carrying her and she slept thru Fantasmic and Illuminations!!

Here's another vote for the baby bjorn! I used it when I took my 6 month old on a trip (not to WDW) without D. We went to a baseball game & he loved being able to look out at everyone! I kept him in it while he sat on my lap so I had my hands free if I needed them!

The only problem was that I couldn't nurse him in it. If you are nursing, the baby care centers would be great. For formula I use powder, premeasured, & carry bottled water.

Contrary to most things I read before taking my 9 month old on his first airplace trip, it wasn't his ears we had trouble with, but his bowels! He had such a massive BM, the flight attendants were handing us trash bags as I changed him on the floor of the bathroom (only one plane that I have ever been on has had a changing table). He also had a repeat performance on the return flight.

DS was 10 months old, however, on his first trip to WDW. He, too, had a wonderful time. He didn't enjoy the shows too much, but he loved the 360 degree movies and anything that moved. He slept alot at the parks, but that's when we would do "switching off". Actually, I believe the way it works is that if you are switching off, your 5 year old (if up to it) would be able to ride with both parents.

We went last December with our 6 WEEK OLD!!! She was so much easier to manage than my two 4 year olds! She slept both ways on the plane, she slept in the stroller in the parks. My best piece of advice is get a Baby Bjorn! I tried several other cheap versions, and am so glad I went with the Bjorn. When she was awake she rode with me. I nursed in all the parks very easily. Have a great time!

my son was 11 mos old last summer when we went. here are my tips!

get a stroller you dont mind not having when you get back, so if it gets trashed your trip isnt ruined. i bought a century capri, which had a big basket, fully reclined and had cup holders everywhere. it was only about $40.

go to right start and get a bunch of table toppers. these are sterilized sticky mats your child can eat off of. so you can sit and eat anywhere.

get a home away from home resort with a bedroom door. go back to the villa for lunch and nap time. close the door and continue to enjoy yourselves.

one piece rompers are the best.

if you dont have one, get a sportbaby backpack diaper bag! the pad is super big so you can change your baby anywhere. it has great insulated pockets and a waterproof packet inside for wet stuff.

get your baby used to a hat now.

formula feeding? bring the evenflo easy ones packets! they are premeasured so you dont need to keep formula cold before eating.

get a carrier. i loved my baby bjorn. you will need it for shows and lines that you cant take your stroller into. remember you can take baby on anything without a height limit.

let your servers know if baby is afraid of the charactures. the manager took our older son around to meet eveyrone elsewhere in the resturaunt, so he didnt miss out and the charactures were a hoot hiding behind their hands everytime they passed our table.

bring lots of film and turn your baby loose int eh boneyard at animal kingdom!
