I am taking my family (DH, DS 13 and DS 16) to Disneyworld this November. I want to stay in a resort, and keep within a strict budget.
I am looking forward to the tips from all the Disney experts. Gimme your thoughts, ideas....it would help a lot!

:welcome:

The value resorts would be good for a strict budget. Watch for specials deal to be offered though. You might be able to go to one of the moderates for close to the same price.

This site has great info on things as well: http://allears.net

depending on your budget you might want to consider renting points from a DVC Menber. Depending on the time of year You can stay there for close to Value rooms and right on that of the moderates.. if not cheaper.

For Instance.... staying at OKW studio for a week in November would be 82 points Sun-Thursday would be 32 points( 8 points per day)

Now... you can get points anywhere from $9.00 - $12.00 a point.
If you stay a week at 82 points @$10.00 a point.. thats $820.00

Your beds will be bigger ( Queen ) .. and you will have a microwave and a refrigerator.
Pretty sweet deal if that's in your budget. WAYYYY Cheaper than booking through Disney.

One of my favorite tips is to order a double cheeseburger and ask for an extra bun. Then you can make 2 sandwiches for the cost of one. I think they charged us like 59 cents for a bun. Works great for the kids! Have fun!

Someone recently posted on the family board that they raised the extra bun price to $1.99

My advice is to stay at All Star Music family suites. The rooms are the largest at Disney and have 2 full baths and 2 different sleeping areas with 2 TVs. They are equipped with a kitchenette that includes a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot, cup & bowls and a sink.

I am a hotel snob and have found that ASMu is a lovely hotel that fits my family's needs. The luxe hotels are great but how much time are you actually planning on spending in your room? Stay at ASMu and spend your money on the fun stuff!!

Have a great 1st trip. You'll love it!

I'm a newbie too! DH has a free airline ticket. We plan on first week of Dec with 5 y/o Princess-crazed DD. I want some deals too!

You are in the best place to find hints and helps.... FREE !!!:tinker:
Since you have only one child.. you might like the Value Resorts. They are really geared for younger children like you have.
POP Century is our favorite Value resort.. but a lot of people like the "Movies" resort becasue of all the Disney Movie Characters.:dumbo: :donald: :simba: :goofy:

A lot depends on your budget.

Feel free to ask questions, and check out all the different catagories.

Disney for Families and Budget Board will be filled with advise I think you will be able to use !!:welcome: :jumping1:

:welcome: to DIS!!! My family are also driving down to Disney in November! Happy planning! :flower3:

Your kids are the perfect ages to enjoy WDW, not that the littler ones don't, I just think the ages are perfect. :goodvibes We went the first time when our boys were about the same ages and we had a great time, no strollers, no packing extra stuff for little ones. Have a wonderful trip, you'll find alot of information on these boards. :wizard: :surfweb:

I would start by deciding what the amount is I have to budget, then factor in the cost of:
1. airline tickets or transportation
2. park tickets
3. food
4. $100/day for misc. expenses

Then take what is left and look for a resort to stay in. The transportation, park tickets and food should almost be a set amount.

Good Luck

Catch on they do. We do the grocery stop en route to WDW and always buy sandwich fixings for pool picnics and always buy buns, we do the double hamburger and just bring a bun from the room and each have a burger. Even at that, we do buy just one regular burger and split the thing and fries, meals are huge.

We like to keep our trips at a good price, no budget but just thrifty, we prefer deluxe and WL at 182.00 a night, is fine for us. We always either use an AP discount, use room only AAA discount or a pin code, we always travel during value season and do not do dining, we do come out cheaper contrary to what others state. We like long stays, 10-12 night varieties, no commando style since our travel is a big part of the cost. Packages cost alot more and give you perks you may never get to use. We feel using a water park ticket and a park ticket on the same day, a waste. Longer stays give you a down day to get the most out of each ticket. Lately, the pool at the WL has served our purpose and we haven't visited a water park in a few years. FW, boat ride from the Lodge has the best buffet for all meals at a good price, real American cuisine and if we do a breakfast buffet, there's no room for a lunch and we then do a dinner. All works out great for us, just the 2 of us, and we can get by, 10-12 night, WL complete trip less travel for 2200.00, which is what we feel is equitable for what we get and how we like doing Disney, we do not care for the value or moderate resorts at all, no matter what price.
