Travelling from Washington

I think all this security, (biometric etc) is a good idea and so far I don't have any complaints about being searched, stopped etc. But how on earth did someone manage to fly from Washington Airport with live ammo in his pocket? Where was the security there?

Makes me quite afraid - if that is the general standard of security.

It's for reasons like this that I think all the debate about Sky Marshalls is missing the point. I wish that more emphasis was being put on the fundamental aspects of travel security, like making sure people with bullets in their pockets don't get onto the planes in the first place. I don't under-estimate the difficulty of achieving this - all it takes is one lapse of concentration - but surely this is more important than having armed guards on the planes?

I have to agree with you Rob ::yes::

Did you know the head of the TSA at Dulles is out on bail on a DUI charge.

jj.......

Don't start me on the TSA. Or Homeland 'security' for that matter. A tragedy, pre 9/11, that occured in the US about 15 years ago now, the daughter of a friend of mine was on a plane in California, I forget the line, but they have since gone out of business, (PSA?) and while in flight, a former employee, who had been fired, got up, went into the cockpit and shot and killed the pilot and co-pilot, causing the plane to crash, killing about 85-90 on board. He was able to get on because he still had his ID and was able to get past security with just that.
I think the new and improved system that he have now is just as liable for that type of incident. We are so busy here running around yelling 'security' and 'terrorism' but mostly not have a clue on what we are doing. Strange times, indeed.
