Hello,

Can somebody help me.

We are looking into buying at BLT (320 points). It seems like a good idea however, I would like to here from people who do not always travel to WDW. The type of travelling that we like is going to different places. We will return to WDW in a couple of years but our travelling will probably be elsewhere for the majority of the years. For those who travel elsewhere, can you give me your opinion. Does it work well to make reservations, what is the cost like, what about all inclusive resorts (they seem really expensive) In other words, if this is the type of travelling that we like is timesharing with the Disney Vacation Club for us?

Thank you.

I would not purchase DVC unless you are planning on staying at WDW most of the time. Not only is it expensive to buy into, but the maintenance fees are higher than other timeshares.

Some people on here own both DVC and other timeshares, so they can comment more on the pros/cons. But with DVC, you have to deposit your points, pay $95, and then hope your request comes through if it's not available. With some other timeshares, you can reserve different locations without having to deposit your points.

Best of luck with your decision, but most will tell you that the biggest bang for your buck is using the points at WDW. Trading out every once in a while is okay, but if you plan on trading frequently, you'd be better off purchasing another timeshare and then use it to trade into DVC. :thumbsup2

Generally speaking no DVC is not a good choice if you vacation other places other than at a DVC resort. Point requirements are pretty steep when trading out to DCL, Adventures by Disney, Conceirge (sp?) Collection etc. Your points will always go further when using them at a DVC resort.

As others have said, DVC really is for those that will use it at WDW, even if it is not every year.

If you want to own so that you can visit WDW, then consider doing a small resale contract. With banking and borrowing, you could combine points to go every 3 years. So, a 100 pt contract would give you 300 points every 3 years.

You can then take the extra money from not doing 320 BLT points and look into other timeshare programs that would give you flexibility to vacation outside the world!

Can you give me suggestions on other good timesharing companies that are worthwhile.

So if I understand, the price per point at DVC is 112$ minus the incentives. How much would it be elsewhere.

If you buy directly through Dis, you're looking at about $106ish per point. However, you can buy through resale and purchase for much less per point. If you want BLT, you'll have to go through Dis, otherwise, all other resorts can be purchased via resale. Check out the "Right of First Refusal" thread under DVC Operations, and it will tell you what most resorts are selling for on the resale market.

As for other timeshares, it depends. Through the developer, they are expensive, just like DVC. On the resale market, they are much cheaper. You can call some of the main brokers and see what they sell, how much they are selling for, and the benefits.

International GMAC sells multiple properties, as does the Timeshare Store (board sponsor). If you're really interested in doing a good bit of reading, go over and join the TUG (Google Timeshare User Group) for $15 a year, and you'll be able to talk to all kinds of timeshare owners. You'll also have access to pictures, reviews, ratings, etc. of timeshares around the world.

DVC would be a poor choice as the only vehicle for your trips. You'd be far better off buying just around the number of points you'd use with DVC and looking at other options for non DVC trips. Possibly another timeshare would be good depending on specifics. The All Inclusive's tend to be a poor value due to high fees and the fact they are VERY easy to trade into.
