Is it better to just bring cash with you or should you bring traveller's cheques?
Does every place in orlando take travellers cheques? Any info would be great.
:cool1:

I usually bring traveller's cheques as they could be replaced. They're accepted at WDW as cash.

Travellers cheques are great. Another nice thing is they are insured generally by American Express (dont think Ive ever seen a non-american express traveller cheque). The one thing to make sure that if you do get travellers cheques is to always have 2 forms of ID on you.. Sometimes you wont even get asked, but sometimes you do and its a hassle of you dont have it. Personally though Id feel a lot safer with a few $50.00 traveller's cheques in my pocket then the actual cash itself. Can save you a lot of hassle if a worst case scenario happens.

We use AMEX travellers cheques everywhere we go in Orlando, Never had any problems and very rarely get asked for ID when using them. We usually bring all $50.00 as they are really easy to cash.

Travellers cheques is our choice...with a little cash for small things...we get Visa Travellers cheques from CAA (if you're a CAA member, there is no charge for them)...NEVER had a problem at WDW, even with $50's :teeth:

Travelers Checks are the way to go. Like everyone said there accepted as cash everywhere within the park (and we even had $100 ones)

Another great thing is if your staying on resort and you use your room key as a charge card, you can then carry even less with you, and each night pay off your days bill with the travellers checks. Thats what we did and it was beautiful. At any given time we only have 1 check just in case something went wrong (which never happened) And about 30 bucks for little incidentals.

A few years ago,I lost all my TC an hour or two after landing. What a way to start a vacation! I had American Express TC. It was just like the commercial. They were replaced by the next morning. I know I would have had a problem if it had been a charge card, or bank card. I swear by TC. I cash what I think I will be needing for the day at the front desk. No problems.

They are a great way to balance out your money. We took 600.00 in tc's and another 700 in cash our vacation a few weeks ago. We also split them up between us so neither of us had all the cash and tc's. Visa does tc's as well, but we always end up with Amex ones and are happy with them.

We take TC's. I bought some on friday, the rate was 1.21 that day. Not bad! Last time we went it was 1.37, so big difference!

We put meals and souveneirs on our Credit card. It is interesting to see the bill when it comes in! The rates are different each day, neat to see it fluctuate up and down each day! Then we just pay it off as soon as we get home.

We just use the TC for snacks, small items basically. Then we get American money back to use for tips and stuff. So I only got $200 worth.

Hi
I picked up some TS'a today at 1.17.
I'm dancing.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I got them at 1.18 yesterday ;o( Darn BMO!

But I'm going to Disney, so that thought makes it all better!

We got $200 worth at 1.19 in late November. I wish I would have gotten $250 instead. We charged all of our meals at the hotel to our room. We put all our meals and souveniers on the Visa. But it is good to have cash for tips, small snacks, small purchases etc...

I took $45 Canadian to the currency exchange at city hall in DL, and got $31.50 for it. At a rate of .70. So not good rate there!

It is amazing how quickly your cash can run out. Tip the housekeeper, tip the
shuttle driver, tip the server, tip the shuttle driver again....., buy cotton candy, buy popcorn, buy a pressed penny, buy a coke,....

I was wondering how much cash one should bring for a one month trip. We're planning to put alot of our stuff on VISA. Maybe bring $1000 in TC's and $500 in U.S. cash.
Anyone any thoughts on this or any suggestions? :confused3

We bring a small amount of cash and primarily TC's far more security with them in case they are lost or stolen.

 Thanks Charles
I feel more secure with TC's then cash. We''ll probably have some cash on us for meals/snacks, and tolls.

You are very welcome we just think about it like this if we lose cash we are out the money. If somone steals a purse like what happened at a family christmas party somone broke into one of the cars in teh parking lot and made off with a purse then you lose the CC's and debit cards and possibly the TC's but with teh TC's you just call Amex or visa or whoever and they replace them for you that day.

It's a long drive to Florida so there would be lots of opportunities to lose cc's, debit cards cash, etc. I'd rather be safe than sorry. So tc's it is!!! :teeth:

We use a combination of TC's and cash. We avoid at all costs using the credit card. Don't know if anyone else's experience is the same but we are charged an service charge (hidden in the exchange rate !) when we use either our VISA or MC. When we compare the daily rate to the one used on our card for conversion to US$ the credit card one is always higher. We noticed it when one of the hotels had to reverse a credit card charge for us. we ended up losing $60 on the transaction ! The service charge was charged on the reversal as well as the charge. The two charges were only minutes apart ! We complained to VISA and they showed us the fine print that allowed them to do that. They were nice and reversed the charges as we geniunely were confused. Now we try to pay cashTC as much as possible.

Goofy's apprentice: Thanks for sharing your experience. You've made me think twice about using the credit card. Since the dollar is doing better, I'm going to get more TC's from CAA in the next day or two.
Our trip is getting closer.
