This will be my first trip to WDW. It is just my husband and me. Can anyone tell me if there are specific places to cash travellers cheques or do you just cash them for your purchases when you make them. I have never had any reason to use travellers cheques before as this will be our first major vacation.
Be careful if you decide to do use the Travelers card. I thought about buying one and using it as a savings account for our trip in December. I figured I could just add money to it through out the year and then when it came time for our vacation, I would have all of the money in one spot for easy access. After checking into it I felt it wasn't a good idea.
Reasons:
They limit the places you can use the card, ie.. if you wanted to use it to get gas you still have to go inside and pay and can't use it at the pump. Also the gas station has to except American Express. If you want cash you can get it through an ATM, but you have to pay the ATM fee both the bank and for them.
They also charge you a $2.50 montly fee for the account and you have to pay a $14.95 processing fee in order to get the card and all uploads have to be done in $100 increments.
All in all the card is good, but I'll just stick with the cheques, I've never had a problem using them at WDW.
Yes, you do have to sign each cheque. There is a cheque that allows for two signatures, but I believe it cost more. Signing can be a hassle and this is doen at the bank when purchase them. But I would rather sign my name 50 times and know that if they get lost or stolen I can get my money back and not have my vacation ruined.
True. I have planned all along on getting them I just have never done it before. Although I am going to need to sign a heck of alot more times than just fifty.
Something that I have learned over the years is not buy all large denominations ($50's $100's). While using the larger denominations is okay at WDW, trying to use them at other locations can be a bit of a hassle due to the amount of change needed and that change being in actual US dollars.
Yeah, I thought about that but what happens when I have to start using them for small items? I would wind up with alot of change and cash in my pockets anyway wouldn't I?
Nevermind. It just hit me like a bag of bricks. Okay. Large denominations are okay. I will just use the change I get back from the first one until I need another check.
