Travellers Cheques question

Is it better to get US Dollar traveller cheques and are there many places in parks, hotels to change them (im staying at Swan and Hard Rock)?

Travellers cheques are the best form of currency to take. You don't need to exchange them at a hotel - just hand them over as you would cash at pretty much any shop/hotel/park. The change will be given to you in cash.
They are as good as cash IMHO as you can use them as liberally.

Take travellers cheques ONLY in US$ and use them like cash - attempt to exchange them for notes and the hotel/bank teller (cashier) will look at you like a criminal. Equally, they have no perception of exchange of "foreign money" in my experience.

However, take care that they will be equally suspicious if you try to buy a $2 drink with a $100 t/chq. Always carry photo-ID as a safeguard in case a shop asks for it.

Just get US$ cheques and use them as cash. When we were there 2 years ago everyone accepted them like they were cash an we never even got asked for ID. Sterling cheques are a real hastle to change. Make sure you take at least $50 in currency though to get you started for tips and road tolls from the airport.

I lost/had stolen my last $50 travellers cheque a few years back but was able to get a replacement within 24 hours which was great and like others have said you can use them like cash everywhere anyway. Just shop around at this end to try and not pay too much commission.

Balance the "no commission" and "best rate" equation - take it from me, I worked in a bank for 21 years and the rates were less competitive to make up for the customary 1% commission charge being removed.

Hi,

As they all say, most restaurants, hotels and parks accept them as though they were cash. Some ask for passport style ID, most don't. Just keep track what value of cheque you are handing over and keep a list of all serials seperate from the cheques in case of loss or theft.
