DD (13) and DS (15) are protesting loudly at the thought of having to share a bed in a hotel. Can't say I blame them but is it worth getting a connecting room? The total price difference would be about $891!! The hotel also charges an extra $30 for the kids to stay in the one room since they are over age 12. I took that into consideration. DH says to make them suffer! We are already paying a fortune for this trip but I don't know how much whinning I can listen to for 11 nights! Opinions from others with teens?

Don't have teens -but when my two(7 and 10) complain about sleeping together we bring along a little inflatable bed. They take turns sleeping on the floor

Why don't you ask the hotel for a cot? They can take turns between the cot and the bed.

DD sleeps with you and DS sleeps with DH -- easy solution. Alternatively, you can also bring an air mattress or sleeping bag. I assume you're staying somewhere that doesn't have rollaways.

No cots or rollaways are available at this hotel. I was also starting to think about the bathroom situation. How do four "adults" handle sharing a bathroom for 12 days? I am a little spoiled....kids have their own bathroom at home and I don't even clean it....

I have to agree as well....they are too old to be in the same bed. Mine are 15 and 11 and I would never put them in together! Do the cot, air mattress or mom and dad share with dd and ds.

I can't say that I blame them, being boy/girl teen siblings, but if it makes you feel better, I go through the same thing with my 2 middle children, both boys. They act so shocked that they have to share a bed on vacation. We have 2 other children, so very often have to get 2 rooms, depending on the hotel, but they still need to share a bed often since the other sibs are an older sister and a younger brother (who kicks a lot in his sleep).

One option that I've given my boys is that we can bring a sleeping bag and they can switch off sleeping on the floor, which I think they've done before. Having that option has helped. How about a rollaway bed? If the hotel isn't booked they might let you have a connecting room for less that the normal rate.

Nope, not an option. I have to have DH next to me!

My neice and nephew are of similar age difference (Now almost 17 and 15) and although they get along, I think they would rather sleep on the floor than together.

I can understand your point though! $891, yikes! Air mattres is a good idea. (They might change their minds after 1 night in it, LOL)

I have three kids (18 yo b/g twins and 20 yo dd). We went to Disney in October, one room at Yacht Club. I brought an aero bed with me because I wasn't sure if DS would fit on the daybed. He didn't, so it worked out great, older DD slept on the bed, younger DD slept on the daybed and my son slept on the aero bed. We asked for linens, and we just stood it up in the corner each night. We only had one bathroom and it was fine. My kids have their own bathroom at home too. But on vacation we have to make do and they don't have a problem with it. It's only a problem if you make a bid deal about it. I figure unless they're paying they have to deal.

What is the big deal if you don't sleep together for one week? I think it's very in appropriate for teens of the opposite sex to sleep together.

This is what we've done in the past with our two teens. Jackie with Mom, David with Dad - works well.

Well DH is next to me but not in the same bed, I sleep on the right side of the bed I'm sharing with Jackie and DH sleeps on the left side - still next to each other but normally separated by the nightstand. Couldn't put my needs ahead of the comfort of my two children and it's only for a short time.

What we have done before when travelling without two of opposite sexes is to take the mattress off of the one bed and put it on the floor. Then one will sleep on the mattress and the other sleeps on the box spring. Bring a sleeping bag from home with you.

Seems like it would be uncomfortable but they've never complained about it. :confused3

You can only do this of course if there is room on the floor for the mattress to fit and usually there is room even though it might be a tight fit.

This worked for us for many years.

Where are you going? WDW??? I am not sure how I would handle this situation. I have a DD11 and DS7. When we are at Old Key West they do share a sofa bed. I am sure in a few years neither one will want to do that so we will need to break down and get a 2 br so they can have their own bed. For now I just tell them to deal with it!

We also have an aerobed, which I think would be the best option unless you want to do the sleeping bag idea or break down and get 2 rooms.

My girls are 9 & 14 and do not sleep together. We always stay at a hotel that has the pullout sofa for the teen or at least a sofa she can sleep on.

Ugh do not make your teens sleep together that's just torture when you are that age and they will be miserable and complaining the whole time. Since your hotel doesn't have options for cot have one sleep on the floor or bring an air mattress. My brother is 2 and a half years younger then me and everytime we went on vacation when we were teens he either slept on a cot or the floor (he always volunteered). I couldn't imagine sleeping in the same bed as my brother there's something wrong with that and he is one of my best friends!
