I read over the FAQ but still have some questions. I will be carrying about 6 boxes of vials of meds for my son's nebulizer. Do I need to take them out of my bag or can they stay in the bag for the xray machine? What about inhalers ? Will they have any problems with open liquid medicine such as Benadryl? Will they make me plug in and turn on the nebulizer? I'm just trying to prepare myself for security and handling a 22 month old at the same time!

thanks so much!

You shouldn't have any problems as long as you declare them right away. Something else that would be useful would be to put all medical supplies (and only medical supplies) in one bag. It will not count towards your carry on allowance.

When we travel I take:
about 15 different oral medications (pills)
2 boxes of xoponex neb. solution
1 box of pulmicort neb solution
4 xoponex inhalers
2 symbicort inhalers
8 epi-pens
plus my nebulizer

I put all of my pills in one large (gallon) ziploc bag
I put my 2 neb solutions and inhalers in another large ziploc bag
I put 6 of my epi pens in a small ziploc bag (i dont keep the boxes)
I put 2 epi pens and 2 inhalers in my purse.
I have never had a problem. They do always look for the prescription on the solution boxes though so i make sure I have them in the original boxes.

I have never declared them. I just take the ziploc bags out of my carry on and put them into a bin. So basically I have one bin full of medication. That makes it much much easier.

MOST airports will do an explosives test on the nebulizer. They just take out the nebulizer and wipe it with a special cloth adn it tests it for explosives. Ive flown over 20 times in the past 5 years and only two or three times have they NOT done this.

Also, the nebulizer does not have to be taken out of teh bag to go through teh x-ray. You just have to unzip the bag and put it in its own bin to go through x-ray. They may or may not ask you to take it out of the bag for the explosives test but they will not (well...should not) take it out because they can possible damage it.

Thanks for your responses! The whole world of asthma and allergies and traveling with a toddler is a new experience for us.

When I travel I have a backpack that holds my CPAP machine and all my medications, both pills and liquids as well as needles. And the liquids are in Frio packs. I will take the CPAP machine out and put it is a separate bin and just have the backpack go through the X-Ray machine. I have never had any problem doing this. And I tend to have at least five airline round trips per year.

We keep all of my sons medication in one bag and once it is xrayed the TSA agent will have us open it and they will look inside. They will need you pull out the nebulizer and they will take it to the side and wand it, but it only take a few seconds. Just be sure to tell them at the start that you have medications and be sure to have all the medications in a package with the RX label ( your pharmacy will print you a new one if you need them to). Also, being in the air flared my son;s asthma so now we use the nebulizer in the air port before we board.

You will not have problem as long as there is a proper prescription and advise them what you are carrying.

I put all of our meds in a gallon ziplock bag, and just take the ziplock out of our bag when going through security. As far as a bottle of benadril (sp) they might check the bottle. They checked my daughter liquid motrin the first time we took (an open bottle) so the next time I took a closed bottle still packaged in the box, and they opened the box and the motrin bottle to check it. Besides things taking an extra minute or two things went smoothly. Last time we took an inhalor and had no problem. I use the time their checking the meds to get out shoes on and the rest of our stuff together.
