hi everyone! :D

My husband and I are planning to go on a Disney cruise in October 2017. He is a Canadian citizen with a Canadian passport and I am a U.S citizen with a U.S passport. I was wondering how we would go about the booking process and how the process goes for when we have to fill out the declaration cards and when we get off the ship to go through customs. Would I have to use my U.S address for booking and the declaration card and would we have to go through customs separately? We are currently in the process of getting me permanent residency in Canada (I will still be a U.S citizen) so I'm not sure whether or not to put down my husbands Canadian address or my U.S address for the booking process (in the contact information) and when we get off the ship to go through customs.

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

It's no issue you can go together and use your home address.

Non USA Passport holders will have to fill in an Esta.

Ok great. Thank you so much! So just so I can understand, when you say I can use my home address, would that be my U.S address or my husbands Canadian address? And what is an Esta and how do we get that?

If your legal residence is currently in the US, not in Canada, then I would advise to use that address. I understand that you are currently not a permanent resident in Canada, therefore I would not use that address. There is no problem if two people who live in different countries travel together in the same stateroom. My boyfriend and I live in different countries and that was never an issue. We always go through immigration/customs separately as we are not one household and every time the other gets called to the desk as well. You can also indicate that you only want the cruise documents sent to your husband's address if this is where both of you are most of the time.

One of the benefits of having two different addresses listed is that you can get an onboard booking with a 10% discount and an onboard credit for your next cruise for every household. If you are listed with two separate addresses, that means you and your husband can each get one booking, just in case the cruising bug really bites you. ;)

Thank you so much for all the info :D

My Mom is a landed immigrant who has lived in Canada for more than 40 years. She only has a U.S. Passport. It doesn't matter that my dad has a Canadian passport. You should enter the address of the place you live so if you live in Canada with your husband you should enter that address. My mom never gave up her U.S. Citizenship and doesn't have to. She has an immigration card she carries in addition to the passport. Another option to consider.

ETA- I'm assuming your living in Canada legally. If you're an illegal immigrant I don't know.

The first cruise I did as a non-resident/non-citizen was before they changed the passport regulations, and all I needed was my driver's license.

In 2008 we did an international trip and Mediterranean cruise. At that time I had my U.S Permanent Residency with my Canadian Passport, while hubby and DD had U.S Passports. Because we were travelling as a family, we all went through the same lines going and coming.

Also to add to this, when we flew back up to Canada in 2012 my mom was with us, and she only had a work visa with her Canadian Passport. Again, since we were travelling as a family she was able to go through the same lines as us both ways.

For what it's worth, when I travelled anywhere while I still had a visa, I always put my address in the states as my residence address. And don't let any desk agents at the airport or cruise line remove your visa! Some have no clue about how things work, and I was forever needing to staple mine back in.
