My boyfriend and I are traveling to Mexico in December and I know some people get hep a and b shots before going. I discussed this with my doctor and he said your chance of contracting hep a is 1% per month's stay and that stat is for people living with locals, we're staying in a nice resort. I'm sort of on the fence over whether or not I should get it. For those who have traveled to a nice resort in Mexico, did you receive any vaccinations before going?

Thanks!

Please, don't take a chance. Get the shots. My uncle went to Mexico 20 years ago and died of Hep C 2 years ago. The doctors can't say 100% where he contracted it but the consensus is that he contracted it down there.

Wow..... so NOT the type of 'shots' i was thinking about when Mexico comes to mind. :cool1:

As for the type of shots of shots you are referring to just go ahead and get them. It isn't too big of a deal. Rather be on the cautious side of things.

How true, how true. When I hear "Mexico" and "shots" in the same sentence, I expect "cartel" or "AK47" to follow. :scared1:

I always get any recommended shots for any place we're going to visit.

AK47? Drug Cartel? I thought she meant tequila!

Go ahead and get the shots. HepA shows up even here in the States. Get it, you're done, that's it. (I think HepA is a series of two.)

You should get the HEPs shot just to live in the USA to be honest. My dd's both have gotten Hep A and Hep B.

In MO you have to get HEP A to work in most food service.

SO yes, I would get them.:thumbsup2

In addition, you should bring some prescription antidiarrhea meds for bacterial infections (just in case), and if you get sinus infections or something on a reg. basis bring a filled prescription for that.

Just gonna throw into the mix that I don't know anyone who's gotten shots to go to Mexico on vacation:confused3 Don't think it was ever even a thought.

You will be fine without shots.

As a flight attendant, we travel to Mexico all the time, and it is NOT a country that requires shots for flight crew!
