I can't decide between using traveler's checks or our ATM card for cash. Each one has a fee attached to it. I was wondering what anyone else preferred.
I prefer travelers checks because there is always a fee attached to ATM's and sometimes out of state and depending upon the bank it ends up being greater than the 1% fee with most travelers checks. In addition, if you belong to AAA, travelers checks are free. At our bank, if you maintain a certain balance, travelers check are free.
We opened a new account just for our vacation fund. With the new account we got a Gold Visa debit card that we have used for everything from plane tix and hotel ressies to buying show tix, etc.
This bank also has no charge for travelers checks. I'ts Washington Mutual, for anyone interested. Don't know if they are everywhere, but they are here in Utah and also in Florida, so that's all I care about. LOL!!
What I do is take Travelers Checks and then turn them in at my resort to be used on our room key/credit card....We always use cash on those cards and never use a Visa.....That way you only take enough cash to the parks with you to buy little things like drinks and Mickey Bars that you can't use the room key for! Then at the end of the day you can get a print out of all the charges you have made that day and what available balance you have left. We love it this way!
