Today I flew from Orlando to Santa Ana on Delta, changing planes in Atlanta. I brought my ECV with me.

I gate-checked it in Orlando. I had a choice of how I wanted it handled in Atlanta. Since my departure gate was very close to my arrival gate I had them do a direct transfer, but I could have gotten it in Atlanta and then re-checked it.

It was brought to the gate in Santa Ana about ten minutes after I got off the plan.

Everything worked properly and there were no problems. I had taken the key with me and removed the basket and the holder for the charger; put them in a cloth shopping bag to carry on the plane. Next Monday I will be flying home non-stop out of Los Angeles and will report further.

Please share all details. TIA

Did you pay extra baggage for the scooter? If not, do you have to have a disability sticker to do this for free?

I have a Pride Celebrity-X which, according the the manual, weighs 192 pounds including batteries. I had called Delta's "Special Services" desk first by going through reservations so they noterd it on my reservation record.

Important thing is to be able to tell the airline people that you have spillproof sealed or gel batteries. My batteries are marked as such.

You cannot be made to provide proof of a disability. And any medical items are not only no charge but outside of the normal luggage constraints.

By the way, at Orlando I actually rode the ECV all the way to the aircraft door. At Santa Ana I walked to the top of the jetway and the agent there called the baggage people. I sat is a chair in the regular waiting area until they brought the scooter.

Sounds pretty good even with a bigger scooter. You did fine.

Now, I wonder how international air carriers would react; since, they probably don't have to follow the same laws, etc.

Hey there! I will be in Disneyland on Saturday and if you are there would love to meet up for a few minutes to put a face with a name!

I'm back home now. I had a non-stop out of LAX to Orlando. Same as the flight out. I rode the ECV all the way down to the aircraft door. Removed the basket and charger into a cloth bag to carry onboard.

One thing I had not mentioned in my first post was I had made a two-sided instruction sheet in plastic and attached it to the ECV. It had segments from the manual showing the Freewheel control, the Tiller Lock, the Tiller Height Adjustment, and the tie-down points.

Again, I took the key with me and left it in freewheel.

When I got off the plane I walked up to the top of the Jetway and told the airline rep there. She was aware of it and had me sit down; about ten minutes later someone came along pushing it.

There was no damage and I saved a few hundred dollars in rental fees and did not wear myself out at any airport.
