We're just back and already planning for our next trip! :cool1:

Better 1/2 is keen to look at driving as an option - getting to the South of England we can work out but not really sure on options beyond there so would welcome some advice please.

Is Ferry/Euro Tunnel better - if looking at these is there a better/closer option to go into in France (in particular is there one which might look £10 cheaper but add on 6 hours to your journey!).

Any advice anyone can provide on things to consider/options to look at for this kind of journey - it would be much appreciated.

Euro tunnel and the ferry port are really close to each other and both go to Calais pretty much in the same place. Last time we drove we went on the ferry Dover to Calais and it took 3 hours from Calais to Disneyland. This time we're going through the tunnel as it was a bit cheaper and it's quicker.

For us Eurotunnel works much better, purely because we can travel down to Kent the night before, get an early crossing and be at DLP by 10am! Coming back last time we got a 7pm crossing back so we could stay in the parks until 4, this time round we've booked it later again so we can maximise our time there. Flight times from here at least are terrible, late going out and early coming back. We haven't flown since the very first time we went in 2004 (and those were some bargain £30 return flights!)

However, that said, we live in Somerset so it's a 3 and a quarter hour trip down to Kent, I'm not sure if I could hack much more than that and going by your location I'm guessing your journey would be a fair bit longer!

Once you're in France it's so straight forward though, far less stressful than I had anticipated beforehand.

I have looked at the ferry before, but it takes much longer and is more expensive. Eurotunnel is great, just over 30 mins and you're off again.

We always drive from Manchester. Go through tunnel. It's around £100 for five day short stay return and only takes 35mins on train once in France It's motorway all the way and well signposted :)

We always drive and take the tunnel. We usually catch an early crossing and arrive at the parks by around 11am. The drive is really easy, nearly all motorways. There is one toll charge, around 21 Euros. When you get near to DLP we find it easier to follow the oad signs rather than the sat nav as that can send you through a few small villages!

We're just back this morning from a 6-day trip, driving from Glasgow. Some thoughts:

- I opted for the ferry (Dover-Calais) as I found it much cheaper (£60 return for a car and 4 passengers) than Eurotunnel (which was well over £150 when I looked).
- However, as I want to avoid the traffic in England (around Birmingham / Manchester and London), I drive through the night in both directions - so you loose sleep but you do benefit from cheaper ferry tickets.
- On the way to Paris, we decide to leave one day early and stay in a B&B in Arras (2 hours north of Paris), visiting some WW1 sights en route. This meant we were refreshed for our first day in the parks.
- On the return leg, we drove with no stop-over. This meant we had a full final day in the parks, before having to leave for a midnight ferry. I will sleep well tonight!
- I used the SatNav throughout, no trouble at all. As mentioned, toll road fees were around 25 Euros each way.

Have fun when it comes!
