Travel time to airport?

We will be in Carlsbad on our departure day, Sunday July 4th. Our flight is scheduled for 9am out of SNA(John Wayne, Orange County). Seeing as it's a Sunday if we left Carlsbad at 6am, would that be enough time?

it's a sunday but it is the 4th of july - so there might be a little extra traffic. Still 6 should be ok. There aren't a lot of alternative routes though, so just to be safe I might leave at 5:30. ( my husband thinks I'm ultra paranoid about flight times). 1 hr w/o traffic or construction is about minimum. Don't forget to consider time to return a rental car and/or check bags - although SNA is pretty easy for the latter.
