travel question (not disney): Global Entry program...valuable?

Hubby has the opportunity for his employer to pay for the Global Entry program.

I'm not sure I see the value in it, as it's all about re-entering the States, which would be at the end of their work trips, when they aren't in a rush. Unlike the hour the TA gave him to get out of the domestic Sydney airport and get to the Int'l Sydney airport (no he didn't make it, LOL)...that's where this program would have been helpful!

Is this worth the background check, etc? (of course he's had constant background checks the last 6 years for his workplaces, no biggie) Is it worth the cost to his company?

If you don't mind the background check it might save some time. True it is the end of the trip, but as someone who travels a lot, the few minutes earlier you can get home are HEAVEN! It is so painful to be at the back of a long re-entry line knowing your own warm bed is mere 10 miles away!

If someone else would pay, I would do it. I also however endured the background check for the FlyClear program that is now defunct.

The thing that gets to me, for him, is that he generally re-enters in a different airport. So he's re-entering in DFW or down in LAX, and his company's travel agency that books him a tiny amount of time to get through intl lines gives him FOUR hour layovers in domestic airports. So the time it takes him to clear security, in MY opinion, takes up time he would be sitting on his bottom at the gate.

But of course it's not me that's traveling, and he is more of a sit at gate person, whereas I just want to get to the airport 2 hours early, not hurry, plod along through the airport and arrive at the gate just as they start boarding. Definitely not a hurry up and wait person.


I found the long thread on flyertalk, so I'll get lots of good info there, too, but if anyone else here as more to say, I'd love the info for him!
