Travel on Thanksgiving

We will be driving on Thanksgiving to Massachussetts (about 5 hour drive) and have never driven that far before on Thanksgiving day. I was wondering how crowded roads would be on that day, or is most of travelling done on Wed? Does anyone know if the food areas are open at rest stops on the holiday?

My stepbrother and sister-in-law have traveled to DE from various places over the years (NY, CT, NC, etc) on Thanksgiving day and have not had nearly the problems we have had all the years we went from DE to CT to visit my grandparents and left on a Wednesday.

Wednesday is definately the worst; a lot of people, unless they are working shift work or in the military (like my stepbrother), by Thursday most people are where they want to be by then.

You didn't indicate your departure point; that would make a difference as to what the traffic would be like. The traffic will be less on Thanksgiving than on Wednesday.

If you are traveling I-95, there will be food stops open near to the interstate exits. You might wish to use this website: http://www.i95exitguide.com/
