:confused3 What type of insurance does anyone use (name of policy) and how much should you get? I went to insuremytrip.com and there are so many things listed. I must get insurance when you have kids and a family member who is currently ill. What do you recommend?

Our travel insurance through TD Meloche Monnex covers trip cancelation and health care coverage. This is good for a full year on as many trips as we tae to anywhere in the world. The cost was 70 dollars for a family of 5 and the max length of any one trip can be up to 60 days away.

To start, find the cheapest option and read through the terms. If it covers what you're looking for, purchase.

If it doesn't, keep moving on to the next cheapest until you find what you're looking for.

Would most policies cover illness in the middle of the trip? How does that work?
I've never purchased travle insurance before, but with a package paid up front and 3 kids, it seems like it might be a good idea.

At www.insuremytrip.com - you put in the total amount you want coverage for, or the amount per person. You should include the amount for airfare and the total price of a cruise or resort package. I have found Travelex to be about the least expensive, and it is primary coverage rather than secondary (after other insurance kicks in). Also, with Travelex, kids under 16 are insured for free. In order to get pre-existing conditions covered, you have to purchse the insurance within a certain number of days of making your first deposit (21 days with Travelex).

Thanks. I looked there, and Travelex looks great.
I was just curious what illnesses would be covered. for instance if one of my kids get the flu, and we can't enjoy the parks or use our dining plan, would that be covered? Or is it only serious/life threatning illnesses? ( I realize it varies by policy, but are there policies that cover this?)
Normally we do room only reservations, and it isn't such a big deal. This time we're looking at a package, and with the MYW tickets that expire...well, it puts a whole new spin on things.

I do not beleive there is any provisions for minor illness like flu etc only for serious illness oterwise insurance companies would be paying out quite a large ammount of money for people that happened to get the flu on holidays.

The insurance would pay for a trip to the doctor or emergency room while on vacation, but doubt it would make up for unused theme park days or meals missed. If someone was so sick that you had to return home early...it would pay for "trip interruption" expenses.
