Would anyone know how far ahead before your cruise you must purchase travel insurance? I was debating whether or not to get insurance for my upcoming cruise. In addition, has any one experienced any problems with obtaining insurance from insuremytripdotcom? They have so many different choices, I don't know which one to pick. Help!

Basically, you need to determine your needs (if you're driving to/from the port for example, you don't need to worry about missed connections, baggage delay, etc.).

If there are ANY pre-existing conditions (even for family members not going with you) you should get your insurance as soon as you pay the deposit on the cruise. That's the only way to get the pre-existing waiver.

For full coverage you basically have to buy it when you book, or within a certain time period after, usually a few weeks after.
And remember, never leave on vacation without enough available credit on your credit cards, (or travelers checks) including for the END of your trip. While insurance will cover most expenses, they expect you to pay the bills and they will reimburse you later. Even a one day delay can mean hundreds in hotel and food bills, and a last minute airline ticket can cost 2 or 3 times what your original ticket cost.

You can purchase anytime you like. You don't need to do it right away unless you need the preexisting conditions coverage. Any time after final payment is usually good since you have up until that time to cancel with no penalties. They won't refund the premium if you cancel. I used insuremytrip.com and had a good experience. I chose the Travelex Lite policy for the coverage and cost. Good luck.
