Just thought I would let everyone know about the travel insurance we just purchased. We got our insurance through TD Meloche Monnex it was 135 dollars for the family coverage for the 5 of us for the year with max trips being 60 days. You get 5 million in hospital coverage and 5000 dollars trip cancelation insurance even using DVC you are covered. I believe she even said something about rental car coverage. I though this was pretty darn good considering how much a temp travel insurance costs.

I also had TD insurance until Reliable came out with a policy that covers my kids when they are not with me. TD does not. My children occasionally travel on their own or will go to the states for a day shopping with a friend and they are not covered. Also, reliable is unlimited health care...no limit on health. I am a travel agent and just this week cancelled my TD coverage and bought Reliable for 60 days unlimited for our family of 5 for $130.

Hey there!

Finally someone has something to say about travel insurance. I posted a question way back about who what and wheres of travel insurance with no response.

I was beginning to believe that no one uses it. My sister-in-law said she wasnt going to purchase it.

I read on MouseSavers 'not to use Disneys travel ins.', and checked out their recommended sites...its definitely not cheap. MouseSavers pretty much says you 'definitely' need it. But I dont know? do I?

the ones you've mentioned dont sound too bad. I have medical insurance I think will cover us....but of course ...not the cancellation insurance.

I wonder if anyone has ever had to use this insurance?

Do you have the websites for these two insurance coverages. I have Liberty Health out-of-country medical insurance for $66.00/year for any trips less than 15 days BUT there is no cancellation components. I'd like to look into both of those.

Knock on Wood!

Have not yet needed to use it but I never leave home without it!

I'm lucky that the owner's of the company I work for travel alot so we have some of the best coverage!

It's a small price to pay for piece of mind!

Reliable is sold through Advantage Travel Agents. You can look on line at www.reliablelifeinsurance.com. I've been selling this policy (Annual) to many of my clients. It is much more economical than buying for each trip individually.

I have a seperate policy added to my Homeowners policy. It costs us $82 for an entire year for our family of four. We are each allowed up to $5 million per year coverage on trips no longer than 30 days. There is a $200 deductible but I can live with that!

My motheri-n-law has been battling Pancreatic cancer for over a year now.
Theres a high possibilty that she may go around June, our vacation time.

Is this covered unders Disneys Vacations, or does travel insurance have to cover this?

I know the air fare is covered, to be used at another time.

Do you know why as an agent I am still being told to sell RBC? I was just looking for a client (I have just gotten back into the business so I consider myself a newbie) and it was $535.00 for a family of 5 for 1 trip and only covering their airfares and medical - seems pretty high to me consider the total cost of the airfares were $1700.00. Is there a huge difference in the coverage or something I am missing here. I can't in good conscience recommend this! Also when we booked the Disney package a few months ago for December she took the optional insurance for $89.00. If I were to use TD or Reliable that would all be covered - I feel horrible but would she be stuck with the $89.00 or could she get a refund from Disney because the final payment hasn't gone in yet. I guess I could call them but sometimes you guys know more than they do. Thanks for any help. By the way - in December when my Liberty Health runs out, I'll be purchasing one of those policy because Liberty Health is medical ONLY.

Oh - one more question - how are these 2 companies when it comes to settling a claim. We have had good luck with RBC and Liberty. Does anyone know?

The quote I got with TD was $299 for family. If we had some kind of insurance with them already, the cost would be $110.

I'll have to call Reliable and see what kind of quote I get with them.

Thanks for the information.

Barb45...that seems high to me?

Have you tried pricing the Ins separately? I have no idea why...but it ends up cheaper???

Thanks Minnie - it works out to $270.00 that way but it is still too high. I wonder why the family package wouldn't be cheaper??? Anyway what company do you use for your homeowners that you get your insurance through? I looked up State Farm's website and I couldn't find anything there so I was wondering who you are with.

Also "reliable's" site is down (seems a bit unreliable - LOL) but I am going to call them to get a quote. I would still like to know if anyone has had a claim with them or TD.

Barb,

Can you PM me and let me know how you're getting that high rate with RBC? I've looked over the rate book and can't see it at all. Also as far as I can tell there is no family package rate that includes cancellation insurance - the only mention of "family" that I can find is the medical-only plan.

As for why you're being told to sell RBC, if you work through an agency then most agencies have agreements with the various vendors. I know with RBC if you sign up for an exclusive with them then you get higher commission rates. The agency I was at last did this - they were allowed to sell a small amount of non-RBC insurance but not much. It was very restricting.

I sell Travelguard, and haven't had a problem with it yet. For your group, assuming everyone in the party is under 60 and the trip is for a week, then the insurance would come to about $200 with TravelGuard. TravelGuard also has a 24/7 help desk for the clients that they can call if they need to make a claim or need assistance.

One thing to be wary of with some of the "smaller" and lesser-used insurance companies is whether or not clients have to pay for expenses out of pocket first, and then get reimbursed. Not too much of a big deal when you're talking things like meals and hotel for trip interruption, but can be a very big deal when you're talking medical expenses.

We have full travel medical through my work, so I've never had to think about it until recently. We're taking a friend of DS's to Florida with us in August, and he has no coverage, so I did a quick check. I think for temp insurance, CAA seems pretty good. Anyone had any experience, find a different company that's better for the short haul? I don't need this kid covered for a year, just 12 days.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

Barb if you have any other questions feel free to ask me or PM me and I will see what info I can get for you especially being I work for TD.

I have no idea why RBC works out to be cheaper individually but it does? I just sold insurance this way for a Mediterranean cruise in Sept and had to do it this way. :confused3

My homeowners insurance is with ING and my travel insurance ryder (sp??) is called Travelwell 30. Any one of our family of 4 can travel unlimited times for up to 30 days each trip and be fully covered for medical with a $200 deductible. It is the best thing we ever did...huge peace of mind!!!
