last time I bought trip insurance through Travelex. I estimated my value of trip as $5,000 and paid less than $200.
We are going in January and with all the weather
/hurricane talk I'm concerned with getting to Florida. We fly down Saturday night do 2 nights at AOA and then the Dream on Monday.
Dh wants me to make sure we have good insurance but I'm not sure what to look at. We got this through our TA.
Any suggestions

I suggest you check out the various travel insurance comparison sites (google that). You'll put in the parameters of what you want covered and for how much, and they will show you a variety of policies from many different companies to choose from.

For us, our primary concern is medical/evacuation coverage. Trip cancellation/delay coverage - not so much. But everyone is different in what they want covered.

You can find a variety of travel insurance providers on the comparison websites like---travelinsurance.com, insuredmytrip.com, etc. but you should buy directly from the provider (their website or phone) and not from the comparison website because if you utilize their emergency services or have a claim you will be dealing directly with the insurance company. We found CSA TRAVEL PROTECTION on the comparison website as the best option for price & good coverages for both:
1. trip cancellation (if booking long in advance and could lose the investment)
2. in trip coverages--interruption (like missed connections, lost baggage, delays) but also the most important to us is the medical and medivac coverages.

Call them for advice. CSA's customer service was very helpful in advising us. We had a claim and CSA paid immediately--unlike 2 years ago with Travel Guard which denied our claim.

If you purchase through the comparison site, you get your insurance information/card from the specific insurance company. You file any claims directly with them. The comparison site is only the broker who sells the insurance, you deal with any claims directly with the company that the insurance is through.

If your concern is with hurricane-caused problems, January isn't near the hurricane season. Not an issue. And since you're arriving two days early, the chance of a flight delay/cancellation that would make you miss your ship are virtually zero. I wouldn't worry about it unless your comfort level is really low.

Shmoo is right. (I say that a lot.) Medical coverage is the most important. Most regular health insurance policies don't cover medical care outside the country. And it wouldn't have to be something big like medical evac.

When we were on the Fantasy, my mother wasn't feeling well at one point and we looked into the doctor on board. They had regular hours for three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. During those times it would have been $150 to see the doctor. Any other time of day, it would have been $300. Just to SEE the doctor. We went to Guest Services and called our Trip Insurance provider and they said, "No problem." Doctor visit, prescriptions, whatever. All covered. We would pay out of pocket first, then file a claim when we got home.

As it turned out, she started feeling better and she didn't need to see the doctor, but it was nice to know we were covered. (Found out they had free Bonine at the ship's doctor too!)

As for other coverage, give thought to what you want to be allowed to cancel for. Illness, sure. But what about if you just get too busy at work or something? A couple years ago my mother was caring for her mother, so we made sure that the insurance covered any illness she might get, even though she wasn't going on the trip, since in the case of her illness, my mother would have to care for her. The policy we picked this time covered some (more common) causes of cancellation at 100% and other causes (like being busy at work) at 80%. Still, this gave us the peace of mind we were looking for.

I have purchased CSA in the past. However, I found their medical and emergency evacuation coverage to be lower than some policies - because the amount of coverage is a policy maximum rather than a per person maximum. I do like that CSA's pre-existing conditions waiver applies as long as the insurance is purchased prior to or within 24 hours of making your final payment.
