Looking to purchase travel insurance with a cruise but just curious if the insurance that Disney offers is a decent insurance coverage/price compared to others in the market?

Yes, the DCL insurance covers the cruise. I believe the PP may have meant ONLY the cruise is covered, unless you purchase any other aspects of your trip through DCL as well. For example -- airfare, ground transportation, pre- and post-cruise hotel, etc. None of those would be covered unless purchased directly through DCL.

You likely can find third party insurance coverage for your entire trip with a lower premium than DCL offers. But you'll want to shop around and make sure you get the coverage you need -- medical, evacuation, pre-existing conditions, death/illness of non-traveling family member, work-related cancellation, etc.

I used http://www.insuremytrip.com I had several questions so I called the company. They were very helpful. I got more coverage for $220 less than what disney was offering.

I use http://www.travelguard.com/ and am always happy with their rates. They even fixed my camera when I dropped it on vacation!

From the link given by lane, you were trying to link to what was being talked about there: "In a few cases (including a Cruise insurance site frequently mentioned here), the site has requested that all links to their site be removed." So it's still not going to work.


OP DCL's insurance is very basic. If you have anyone close to you (or in the traveling party) with a pre-existing condition, it won't cover cancellation or interruption if that pre-existing condition flares up. It doesn't cover anything but the cruise. etc. (it's also not available to people in WA state like me)

I would definitely look to the various websites where you can compare various travel insurance policies. Make sure you know what you need, talk to the people there, read the policies, and see if they will work for you!
