Hi,
Can any one advise? I am currently looking at travel insurance for our October trip. My big worry, as we have gone DIY, is one of the kids getting chicken pox or something that would mean the airline wouldn't let them go. I have been reading policy wording and it talks about only covering YOUR part of the trip. So does this mean if a child was ill they would only pay out for their share of the trip even though obviously none of us could go? I really want the security of knowing that if anything like that were to happen we would be able to claim our money back in order to go another time. As it has been 2 years of savings I just want to make sure all angles are covered. Does anyone know anything about this or have any experience they can share?
TIA

I too have a horror of Chicken Pox. I am going in October and my youngest two DD's have not had it. My understanding is that each person is covered by the policy - that includes children. I would assume that the insurance company would accept that as you were holidaying as a family, you would also cancel as a family. It sort of invalidates the value of insurance if this wasn't the case.:confused3

Sometimes your bank will offer an Insurance package which includes Travel insurance. I know my bank here in Dublin offers a package for €10 per month, which includes travel insurance, and electronic insurance. Also gives the added advantage of lounge access in worldwide lounges!

tobe honest the only way you can be sure is if you find an insurance that looks good and you think it prob does what its intended then give them a call to back up what you think it covers! I have worked in the insurance industry and there are alway 'if's and but's'...that small print if not read, digested and understood could really come back to bite you! :)

Thanks for the information. I will phone up a couple of companies and ask about this to make sure I am getting the cover I need.
Joolz I am glad I am not the only one that worries about these kind of things! My youngest has been exposed to CP loads as all the kids at her childminders and nursey have had it and she never got it so although I thought she could be immune I worry that no doubt she will come down with it 2 days before our trip! It was like xmas this year when a bad vomiting bug went round her childminders so I kept her off for the two weeks before xmas as I was so worried about her getting it for xmas day. Lo and behold on xmas eve when I put her to bed she started being sick and continued to vomit for the whole of xmas day! Best laid plans with kids eh? ;)

I have convinced myself that a calamity will befall us before our trip to WDW. I have visions of broken limbs, chicken pox, volcanic ash, air strikes, world wars....:rotfl:

lol! I notice that this is your first wdw trip. Mine too. I think that's why we worry as its so much money and planning! We have also done DLP 3 times but this is the first biggie! Where are you staying and when in October are you going? (If only so I know what plane/hotel to avoid due to the outbreak of your children's chickenpox! lol :lmao:)

I have been planning and saving for this trip since 2009. We are going at the end of Oct (29th) for 2 weeks, flying from Manchester. I will be packing a whole pharamacy just in case. I took Piriton with me to DLP in 2009 because I was convinced the kids would get chicken pox. We are staying at OKW. If you are there at the same time and you need any medication, just pop in.:rotfl: I am tempted to quarantine all of us from September onwards ;)

LOL!
We are the same Joolz, been saving for 2 years, funnily enough we are at OKW but we leave on the 29th October to fly home. Best ask for your room to be fumigated before entering in case we leave a bout of the bubonic plague or something behind!
Joking aside, I am sure none of your worries will come to fruition and you will all have a wonderful holiday. I shall think of you jealously as I leave, just arriving for your holiday!! ;)

My DD came down with Chickenpox on our last night in Florida when she was a toddler.

We had to stay an extra week as they wouldn't let her fly (the hardship :rotfl2:)

omg i hadn't even considered this possibility! (first holiday with my children!) we had to cancel our florida holiday last october as my husband was in hospital for 5 weeks with meningitis :sad2: so i'm hoping thats our run of bad luck out of the way!! but it'd be sods law!...

I know it would only cover one disaster but there is a chickenpox vaccine. It is routinely used in the USA but is only availble privately in UK (£100ish).

I don't know the pros and cons of this treatment as my kids had both had chickenpox before I'd even heard of it.

On the Travel Insurance question; when my DS broke his leg a week before our holiday a few yars back Travel Ins covered all 4 of us to cancel. Me & my DD still went actually as my two sisters & their family were going too - so Travel Ins just refunded DS & DH part. (It wasn't Disney before you all think I'm really mean to go and leave them both at home:rotfl2:).

Thank you Cliveywolves - I booked with this company this morning - Great to see the independent travellers cover, and also a company that will include a full time student in a family cover. Found it odd that it was cheaper to do an annual cover than a single trip but I am not complaining - Thank you
