I have booked and paid for a three week holiday at the Pop Century Resort in September for my wife, myself, and our granddaughter.
Last Monday I was taken into hospital with with a small stroke. When they did a CT scan of my head they said I had also suffered one previously. I can remember going to the doctors with weakness in my arm and leg a few weeks ago but he said it was nothing to worry about and was possibly caused by a migraine attack.
I thought they were saying that I had suffered a TIA [mini stroke] but they said it was worse than that. They said the strokes had been caused by blood clots in the brain so they put me on blood thinning medication and on cholesterol lowering medication. They scanned my neck and said I must also have a heart scan. I asked the doctor if I can travel to America and they said yes as long as nothing happens between now and September.
I phoned different places about travel insurance and the cheapest I can get is £2075 with a £500 excess which I am not prepared to pay.
My wife was all for cancelling the holiday but I will not do that has we have promised my three year old granddaughter [will be four when we go] that we will take her. I know that some of you will think I am mad for still going but I honestly can't let her down, so my mind is made up.
Because I have not got travel insurance has anyone got any idea of what would happen if I had a stroke in America?
Thanks in advance
Lyndon
