Hi there,
Just a quick question regarding travel insurance. I declined Disney's own travel insurance as it was £52 for our family of 5. I wondered who other people go with? I just want to be covered for luggage and cancellation etc but having looked at moneysupermarket.com, there are hundreds to choose from, ranging from £5 to £85! Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

I use moneysupermarket, then check the coverage and the excess.
Mine this time cost me £8, could have got one for £5 but the excess was way too high.

Hi, ours comes free from our bank, so it might be worth checking to make sure you don't get anything like that from yours?

I will check with my bank first and if I'm not covered, I'll go for one online. I just wanted to make sure that the cheaper insurance was ok. I'm hoping to get it for less than £10!:)

If I have this travel insurance, do I still need the E111, or whatever it is called now?

I'm one of these people who like to have my travel documents in order in plenty of time. lol

The EHIC is unrelated to your travel insurance so yes, it's recommended you have one of those as well. They're very easy to get though - just fill in your details online and they will send you one free of charge.

We get world wide travel and car insurance through one of our credit cards. So that might be an option as well.

I have annual travel insurance, so I only need to pay once. Its saves a lot of money if you go on multiple trips every year.

I think for the sake of £10 or whatever the cheapest is you cannot afford to be without it. It not only covers you for travel issues but also any medical emergencies when you are abroad. In nearly all cases you have to pay first and then claim back with EHIC whereas with insurance they will send the details direct to the company. My friend fell full length down the stairs at Cafe Mickey breaking a bone in his foot - without his travel insurance the bill would have run into hundreds. Remember as well that the nearest medical facility might be a private one and those are not covered by the EHIC http://www.nhs.uk/healthcarefrance/Pages/healthcarefrance.aspx

Don't want to sound like a scaremonger but as a parent you know yourself how quickly kids go from well to poorly and I think its one of those things its better to have covered off.

I absolutely agree. I just feel more secure knowing I'm covered but definitely didn't want to pay Disney's £52 premium. I'm going to get passports renewed, insurance, E111 and balance paid this month - then I'll know it's all done and I can concentrate on planning a highly detailed itinery of our stay.:rotfl:

I get annual and never get the E111, is that wrong? Do I need the E111 too?

The E111 has now been replaced by the EHIC. This is a reciprocal agrrement between the EU states (and Switzerland) which means if you fall ill you will receive the same treatment as a citizen of the country in which you fall ill. So you won't be worrying about paying bills and recovering from your insurer, or even having to phone your insurer. You will be treated as a 'local' would. Your insurance would pay for anything over and above - for instance if you needed to be flown home, or maybe pay for a relative to stay out there with you. Of course insurance also pays for things like lost luggage and holiday cancellation.

I get my insurance through my bank account but this time I've lost the insurance documents I've just paid £9.75 though moneysupermarket for premium insurance through swiftcover.com for me and my BF. They do a special one for France.

We have annual insurance as well. Sice both our families live abroad we thought it would be wiser to get annual family insurance. We bought ours through John Lewis (Greenbee) and I think it cost around £80-90 for multiple trips within Europe.

The EHIC are free as someone stated and it only took 2-3 days for ours to arrive.

True but even though Switzerland is included, don't think it works well because there's no NHS system in Switzerland - it'll all private and costs a lot of money!!! I was unlucky to have to go to the A&E in Geneva and the bill was :scared1:

I've now applied for my EHIC online. It took a couple of minutes and was very straightforward. I've found travel insurance for less than £10 with an excess of £50 - does that seem reasonable? The cover is £1250 for cancellation and £500 luggage. I wish someone would take care of all of this for me!!;)
