I am new to the DVC, do you think I need travel insurance? If so, since we are going on points how do put a dollar amount on the trip?

We are going first week in October if that makes a difference. Thanks

As far as I know, the only company that sells insurance to cover the points is the one that has the brochures in our reservations, AIG Travel Guard. You have to purchase before the penalty period. I do not believe that they pay much per point, but when we are traveling to a major family vacation at WDW, we do buy the insurance for the points.

Besides covering the points you do get some coverage for travel delay and baggage loss/delay.

Does anyone know what the covered cancellations include? Sickness, death, etc..??????
Is there a website from AIG with more info?

I don't see a "general information" web site. I would call 1-866-690-6858 for information.

PS. This is the same company that we use for cruise insurance. Once we had a European cruise scheduled for DS, DDiL and her mother needed emergency heart operation. We were reimbursed the total cost of their cruise,...this happened the day before we were leaving for the cruise. We do not as a rule buy travel insurance for WDW trips, but in July our family had a reunion in Cape May, and my DS mentioned that if the kids had the same sort of bout with earaches, they wouldn't be traveling to WDW. This got me thinking that we should at least cover family trips.

TG's website is travelguard.com and you can buy directly on the site, it's easy to use.
