Has anyone ever used travel insurance for their DVC trip (points)? I never have, but I am considering it.

If your trip is cancelled at the last minute, what happens to your points if you have this insurance?

Thanks.

If your trip is cancelled last minute you still lose your points, or they go into "holding"...depending upon when the cancellation takes place. The insurance simply gives you some monetary reimbursement.

I've never used the insurance, but I think even to get a monetary re-imbursement, the cancellation has to be for some sort of reason beyond your control (closed airport, death in family, car breakdown enroute to Disney, etc)

If you take the insurance money, I don't think you still keep the points even if they are in holding.

Like I said, I've never used the insurance...but I don't see why you'd lose the use of holding acct points...the insurance company is independent of DVC and is not a Disney operating company. How could DVC intercede and take away points because of an agreement or contract you make with a outside vendor?

I assumed they coordinate it with DVC, since DVC sends out the brochures with reservations.

Interesting question, it would change my opinion of the DVC insurance if you could take the money, and reschedule the trip with the holding account points. I doubt it though.

I assumed that the insurance company pays a fee to DVC for including the flyer, just like the advertisements in your credit card statements bills.
