Ok, I put my deposit down last week (Friday) for our 7 day cruise. Now the big question.. insurance.. well not actually a question in if we're getting it, but when?? What does all the information mean?? Pre-existing conditions? What all counts? How much coverage is enough? And has anyone had any good or bad experiences with any certain insurance companies?

My biggest question is when do I need to purchase it? I know about insuremytrip.com I've been there already, leaning towards Travelex -Travel Plus insurance.. any experience with these? I know the idea of insurance is not to use it, but anyone used it and have feed back?

Thanks again.. I don't know how I would plan this trip without all of you!!

I have read parts of the "passporter" and there is a very small amount of information on insurance. I was suprised!

As you noted, Insuremytrip.com is a good place to compare policies. It seems that Travelex not only has the best price, but also the most liberal pre-existing conditions waiver period (you have up to 21 days after your deposit to purchase the insurance - and the exclusion period if you don't purchase it right away is only 90 days). My DS has asthma and on our first cruise we made the mistake of not getting the insurance right away. We were lucky he didn't have an episode, and we've always been careful to buy our insurance on time ever since!

We've used Travelex in the past and haven't had any problems (giving them our money was very easy!). FWIW, I did a search in Google Groups for Travelex and found only good reports.

Thanks for your quick response! How would I go about buying insurance for my group? I'll explain..

Room 1 - Me, DH, DS (3) & DS(6) (all same family)
Room 2 - Mom, Nephew (15), DD (13) & DD (11) (spliit in two)
Room 2 - Sis, BIL, (1) & (3) (all same family)

We booked all 3 rooms at the same time through AAA.

Would I insure all 3 rooms together with all 12 people or each room separate? This is all so much info to process! Or maybe I'm making it into a bigger deal than it is.

Thanks again!

Well, I'm not even going to touch the issue of whether you are blowing this out of proportion.......

But, insuremytrip.com also has a website just for groups like yours: http://www.insuremygroup.com/

It's true!

WOW you're good and fast!

I checked it out.. since the majority of our travelers are under 16 it's cheaper to get insurance the regular way.. my only question there is how to do it.. can I get a policy with my DH and 4 kids even if we're not in the same rooms? I guess I might have just answered my own question.. my two DD's who will be in my mom's room are under 16.. so they are free. Her insurance would be for her cost only (I'm guessing).

Thanks again for your quick response!!
