A belated Happy New Year everyone.

Haven't posted in a while as DH was diagnosed with lung cancer in the Summer but today we had his CT results which showed that the tumour has drastically shrunk and the consultant has said that we can book for Florida in May IF we can get insurance.

We're thinking of booking last minute if the insurance isn't horrendous. Will start phoning around but does anyone know who we could try?

Hi I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through. There was a thread on here about pre existing medical conditions and it was highly recommended to try Martin Lewis's page money supermarket that has a section on there about insurance.

That is really good news about your DH. My DW was in a similar situation when she was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, however now that she is in remission we have booked several holidays with normal travel insurance which covered my wife but excluded cover relating to her cancer. This seemed sensible for us as:

1) The duration of the holiday (2 weeks max) was such that even if she noticed any symptoms, we would be back home for weeks before anything would have to be done medically.

2) We booked relatively close ie same year

This may not work for all but if the insurance is not necessary to cover for a relapse then think about this as an alternative

Will have a look. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. Great news that your wife is in remission.
As we're thinking of going in May, hopefully we'll get a good last minute deal as it's exam time everywhere. Could have booked Virgin last week for £423 but had no idea what today would bring. Will look around for insurance to get an idea where we stand and then decide what to do.

Have phoned a few companies and did manage to get a quote £3577!!
Others declined as soon as I said DH was on a clinical trial but had finished his chemo/radiotherapy in October.

Eurotunnel however said they only need the Dr to say it is ok to travel which he has and their quote for an annual couples insurance worldwide was £112 and we would be covered for any medical condition.

Surely at that price pre-existing illness would be excluded :confused3

Do you have a Maggie's Centre in your area as they carry a list of companies that you could get insurance from. They also have an online forum where you could get help.

Have just googled it and we don't have one near us but I can look online. Thanks.

Will phone our lung care nurse on Monday also but would love someone to comment about Eurotunnel .

Well Eurotunnel has come through £112 for both of us for annual worldwide insurance. Can't believe the price but did e-mail them and I now have a reply stating that we will be covered for pre-existing conditions as long as we are under 69, not been told it's terminal, not going inorder to get medical treatment and that our Dr's have said we're fit to fly.:yay::dance3::yay: So happy.

The Macmillan site are now saying that people have recommended them.
