If I were to opt to purchase the travel insurance coverage for the Disney Vacation Club members and one or more of the nights of a multiple night stay was purchased via the Annual Pass price, would the insurance cover the cost if I were having to cancel, providing the need was one that is covered by the insurance? By paying the rack rate or member discounted rate, I could get the money back, but not the AP best rate.

The trip insurance sold by DVC only pays about $5 per point, I believe.

If you purchase trip insurance from a regular company, I'm not sure they would insure the points. Trip insurance will usually cover any non-refundable deposit or payment you have made, provided that you cancel for covered reasons -- but DVC points are not non-refundable.

If you are asking about the one-night non-refundable deposit with AP rates, yes trip insurance would cover that, plus any airline cancellation fees you had. However, you'd have to be sure the trip insurance would be cost-effective to just cover one night.
