we are travelling to Aluani in February - it is my 'I beat cancer' celebration trip as well as my dh 50th and youngest ds' 16th birthday celebrations. Can't wait!!

We have health insurance through dh's work and have never been in the situation where we have needed it before. My cancer is finally clear (just found out last week!!!) and I have a stem cell transplant happening in September..... Does anyone know of any health insurance companies that will cover me just in case I have anything related to the cancer and transplant happen while we are away? I know most won't cover pre-existing conditions? I want to make sure I am well covered!!

Can't answer the question about who will cover you (other than if anyone else is looking ... the coverage through Disney covers PRE-EXISTING conditions if you buy it when you book) But i can't pass up the chance to say CONGRATS!!

Wanted to add my congratulations!

I don't have a true answer for you. it may be a case where you have to find those agencies that you apply in person for Travel insurance. But I suppose that it wouldn't hurt to check online with CAA and the banks.

First, very happy to hear your good news.

Manulife has a product called TravelEase - it's for those who don't fit the CoverMe qualifications. Supposedly, they take all of your information re: meds and conditions and tailor to your health to work with your pre-existing. I know nothing about it though - other that researching it for my mom, so read the fine print there.

You're smart to be very careful. Most people don't recognize that pre-existing is not covered. And I'm sure/know that they work very hard to connect back to pre-existing.

And even if one thinks they are stable, policies have a entire different definition of what stable means. One change in medication is not stable. Any kind of testing is not stable etc. And usually it's within a time period, 90 days which would not be great for your wonderful news.

Here's some good news ----

A lot of people don't realize that many companies have something called "Travel Medical Underwriting". There are rules about who can use it but it's on line with what I believe TravelEase is all about. Works case by case to cover your conditions. You can only get it within a certain timeline and often if you don't qualify for their regular program.

Sorry to be so vague, but it's a start.

Have a lovely vacation.

Thanks all - will look into that and will call around!! Am very excited to have finally heard 'cancer is gone' from the doctors!! Has been a very long year - chemo started in December, last of 20 radiation sessions was today and just the stem cell transplant to go in September then I will be done!!! Seeing the cost of several of the meds I was on I can honestly say I'm thankful to be Canadian and have our medical covered!!
