I see that a lot of people here use Travel Guard instead of the travel insurance offered by Disney. Can anyone explain why they pick one over the other? We are debating insurance now, and don't know what to do!

it's been awhile since we used it but I think it came down to price and coverage for us in choosing travel guard. no experience w/Disney's but I can say that in submitting a claim to travel guard for med reimbursement it was very easy and fast.

I choose a policy that covers kids for free (Allianz has one and so does Travel Insured). As a single mom, I get a lot of bang for my buck that way.

ETA: I know what Disney Cruise sells is a good value if you're older (since it's basically a flat rate based on the price of the vacation, not the age of the travelers). Otherwise IMO it's a ripoff.

Disney's travel insurance is underwritten by Transamerica/Travelex, a very highly regarded company. Basically, it just comes down to coverage limits and price.

In 2011 we purchased the Disney insurance and it was underwritten by Travelguard. We did have to use it for a medical issue and I have to say Travelguard was easy to work with.
