Through Interval International, if a reservation is cancelled I believe 6 days or less(maybe 24 hours at the latest), the reservation is forfitted unless of course you have Travel Guard Insurance...You never know if 24 hours before a trip, someone gets so ill that you cannot travel..

Has anyone used this? I'm wondering if it is very expensive???

I says that can protect against losses on reservations using Vacation Points for specific circumstances..I will find out, but I would imagine a specific circumstance is documented medical situation...

How do they determine the "value" of say 160 points using Interval?

I have always purchased Vacation Travel Insurance using Disney Resorts and it makes me apprehensive about a medical situation arising when booking
through Interval..
Thanks in advance:goodvibes

For say 200 points, travel insurance costs $51.50 for everyone in party traveling...So reasonable; I can't see why you wouldn't purchase it. She couldn't tell me how the cash value is calculated if you cannot go on trip or trip is interupted...She said that Travel Guard works with DVC.She suggested I call DVC Member Services.

I would imagine that a cost per point is used...Anyone ever have to use Travel Guard for cancelled trip?

Thanks in advance as always!:goodvibes

So what if say one of the family members comes day with say the stomach virus.....we would have to take the sick member to the doctor and get proof they were unable to travel???? I always wonder the details of "docuemented medical issues"???? I wonder what they mean by that??

Very sensitive to this issue because I got SO SICK 5TH DAY OF RECENT DISNEY VACA AT BEACH CLUB RESORT WITH GASTRO VIRUS..I gutted the rest out, but had this happened to one of us the day before we left, we couldn't fly!:goodvibes

We use Travel Guard for cruises. Two days prior my dad was found unconscious and hospitalized. We cancelled and TG sent forms for the doctor to fill out. The attending physician has to recommend cancelling--a stomach flu would probably not be reason enough. We received a check in about a month, but did not get all our money. We should have, but they calculated each person individually and it did not add up to the total. I have used them since because they are cheaper than everyone else, but was not totally pleased.
If you have kids, they have a policy where one kid is free for each adult. Make sure you get it, because our travel agent booked another one that cost alot more once.

For DVC resort stays, Travel Guard only pays $5 per point. Not sure if they do the same for II trades.

I can tell you that we had a claim with Travel Guard a few years ago related to a Disney Cruise (we bought the insurance directly through Travel Guard) with some hurricane issues. Our claim was very complex and in some cases pretty subtle (e.g., claims for expenses that we actually did not pay out of pocket but were legitimately incurred and part of the loss we suffered). I was extremely happy with the fairness and speed with which our claim was settled. I would use Travel Guard again in a heartbeat.

I know if this were to happen I would not take a child on a plane sick. Who would want to be on plane with a child puking. :scared1:

We self-insure. Part of the reason is that insurance only pays $5 or so for each lost point.

We've now taken enough DVC trips that had we purchased insurance for every trip, we could have paid for at least 2 or 3 cancelled trips.

We've been lucky - no cancelled DVC trips so far . If we have to cancel, we'll just eat the cost. Won't like it, but willing to accept the risk rather than pay for insurance for every trip.

Haven't used the insurance yet. Since 2004 we have only lost one day's points due to air travel issues (darn that Buffalo weather !!).

However, we have a large trip booked next March which involves multiple families and a SSR GV for four of the days. Would anyone consider just insuring the GV days. The whole week is using a truckload of points so I would be sad to lose them all. For the first part of the stay arrival of families is staggered and we are in multiple rooms so my exposure isn't as high unless something happens that affects all of us. Do you think it would be worth it for the say the GV portion and the two-bedroom portion?

We purchased Travel Guard for an upcoming trip but not through DVC as the whole trip is not point based. Competetive pricing and good to deal with!

How did you do that? Did you call another number? I only have the Travel Guard info sent by Disney. I woud be interested in doing it your way. Can you comment? Thanks!

I've never used insurance for DVC trips, but I've used Travel Guard for numerous other trips. Over the years, we've had two claims, both due to in-law medical issues. Our experience with Travel Guard was exactly the same -- very prompt, very professional, highly recommended.

We get a Travel Guard policy every trip. Here is the link to Travel Guard that we use:
http://www.dvcwishes.com/

There is a button at the bottom of the page. Take your time and check out the different levels of coverage.

Excellent! One quick question....I put "0" as trip cost because my trip is on points. If I want air covered, would I have to include the cost of the air in the "trip cost" field, or would that be automatically covered? Thanks for the link! I really only wanted emergency medical coverage, and possibly air because thru Disney, they won't cover any air I arrange myself.

Trip cost includes what you will pay for your trip, including air, a dollar value for your points, DDP if not refunded, etc. We use $11 per point. The trip cost is what you will be reimbursed should you file a claim. The higher the trip cost, the higher your premium. I didn't think that points would be covered so I called AIG and the agent told me to use the value of the points as if I was renting them.

We started buying insurance after we got food poisoning while at WDW the Christmas before last. We all spent two days in Celebration Hospital and five more days in our room at the WL. Disney was very nice and instructed us to submit a claim with their claims department. The claims department states that they never received the claim but they can't explain how our file was updated with some of the info from our claim.

If we had trip insurance, we could have recovered all of our costs and been done with it.
