Not really sure where this should go, but since some of the Dreams agents post here, I'll ask.

If I book a trip by myself, can I later transfer it to a travel agent?

I think PP was asking if it was WDW or a cruise because it differs. If it's a WDW trip, I believe you can transfer it to an agent within 30 days of booking it as long as its not paid in full.

Didn't realize there was a difference. It's a WDW trip. Unfortunately, there would be a gap of over 30 days, if I chose to transfer.

TRANSFERRING A RESERVATION TO A TRAVEL AGENT

Disney has a policy for reservations booked directly with them and transferred to a travel agent. Included in this policy are Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, and Aulani. Disney must approve all requested transfers.

  • Reservations paid in full are not eligible to be transferred.
  • Reservations that are not paid in full may only be requested within 30 days of the initial booking. (Initial booking date is the date the Reservation Center generates a reservation number, not when the deposit is made).

I'm curious, why would one want to transfer? eg, why wouldn't you just book with the TA originally? it doesn't cost any extra, they do a lot for you and the team at Dreams are so friendly and helpful! I had Ally Thomas book my WDW portion, and Walter booked my Universal portion (Ally said they had to be handled by different TA's when I booked in late 2013 for my March 2014 trip, however, when my sister booked mid 2014 for an October 2014 trip, Ally did the lot for her, both Universal and WDW, so maybe the separate TA's policy at Dreams has changed?)
Ally was brilliant, especially with the time zone difference between where she is vs East Coast Australia (16 hours behind for East coast USA, 19 hours behind for West Coast USA)

Now, if only Pete needed a TA delegate in Australia to handle Those bookings............... *hint*

For me, when AAA had their preferred partnership with Disney, I would book everything myself because I'm a control freak and then I would transfer it to AAA so I could get the perks associated with an AAA package. It worked out because the agent didn't really have to do anything which I'm sure she appreciated, I was comfortable because I had booked it myself and knew I wouldn't change anything, and I got to take advantage of the AAA benefits.

For other people, perhaps they found an agency running an exclusive special that they want to take advantage of.
