Trash at the DVC's - I don't get it?

So we had our first 5 night stay in a studio at BCV. On day 4, Mousekeeping provides trash and towel service. About 4 doors down from our room, was a room labeled "Trash & Recycling Room", to which we brought our trash and recylcables daily. So here's what I don't get...why would people wait for day 4, or worse still, put bags of trash in the hallway (which I'm sad to say I saw), when they can simply walk to the "Trash & Recycling Room". We actually asked a CM in the DVC kiosk and mentioned it might be nice to have a list in the room indicating where various things were in the Villas for people who might not otherwise know...this just seemed a bit wacky to us. :3dglasses

We took all our trash out every day at HHI and I can't understand why anyone wouldn't do it. The trash cans are kind of tiny when you have 5 people in there. It was a no-brainer for us.

It may be the amount of trash. We usually are lucky (or unlucky) to fill a trash can in 4 days and have never needed a new bag for the basket because we seldom cook. Not much point of looking for a trash room if the bag is empty.

It may have more to do with other timeshares. They have the residents leave the trash outside their doors for pick up during morning hours. Around Orlando I think most timeshares open to the out of doors not a hotel corridor.

Some people are just lazy! That's why they don't throw out the trash. Or they don't read the handbook which tells you that you have to throw out your own trash.

I love the trash and recycling room! We try to use it all the time. However, when we stay at OKW I can't seem to find it.

I think most of the hallway bags are left there by the housekeepers. I think someone is supposed to come by and pick them all up at once rather than have each housekeeper make multiple trips to the trash room each day - kind of an efficiency thing.

Perhaps some guests put the trash in the hallway, but I think they are few in number.

My theory - yours may differ, LOL,

Best wishes -

I don't think it has to do with timeshares in Orlando as most timeshares I've been too don't have daily trash pickups outside the rooms; there may be some but not in the timeshares I've been. The closest that did it daily was HGVC but it took them 2 days to pick up the trash that people left outside their room. It might also be prevelant in points-based resorts where the checkin date may vary. There is usually an area on both sides of the buildings or a room to dump the trash. People who leave the trash out think they are in a hotel where there is a daily housekeeping to stop by and pick it. The flip side to this is that these people then complain about how the units being dirty because somebody doesn't stop by and pick up their trash. It is important to remember that these are not hotels/motels.

My theory as well. And I've seen mousekeeping do it. Some of those bags are guests, but mousekeeping sticks them there as well.

At BWV, the trash room can be a LONG way away. We just wait for T&T day, unless there is something stinky in the trash or we manage to fill it.

Your post has made me so happy!!!!! I can't answer your question-- people are lazy so maybe that's why they didn't bring it down to the recycling room. But, when we took the tour of SSR before buying last month, our guide talked about trash and towel service. I thought 4 days was way too long to have trash in a room (ewww), we still have one in pull ups so having trash sit for that long is not an option. I asked him if I could take the trash out myself-- was there somewhere to dump it. He said I was the first person who every stumped him on a question, and he had no idea if you could or not. That actually has been bothering me in the back of my mind (can you tell I have OCD?). So glad to see I can take out my trash!! Thank you!

It is not that hard to take the trash out. You do it at home -right?! At least I would hope so. We did a daily trash run. Didn't take but a hot minute.

This seems to mostly be an issue with the hotel type DVC resorts. I have never seen it at OKW or SSR, but then it is VERY easy to take the trash to the recepticles there.

I agree that the trash cans are very small. However, when we were at HH this past spring, we couldn't find a trash station (we were in the lodge), and when we asked where the trash stations were, we were told to simply leave our garbage outside our door and it would be taken care of. So, in at least some instances I wonder whether other people might sometimes be directed to do the same thing. In other cases, at WDW, we saw housekeeping put the trash outside the door and then someone else came by later to pick it up. BTW, we have never done this at WDW as the trash stations are pretty easy to find and we try to be considerate as much as possible.

Sign me on for the petition to have the T & R room posted in each villa :thumbsup2 . A lot of guest have no idea where they are located (no, I'm not saying it's an excuse to leave the garbage outside the room). We have been members since '98, and I have no idea where they are located in any of the resorts.
Luckily, our trash is almost all paper stuff, except for the coffee grinds (which I bag in leftover plastic bags), so it doesn't become overwhelming in between Mousekeeping services. But if we cooked ............. :rolleyes1 ...........ewwww!

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm picking on you, but being a bit of a "green person", I'd like to suggest that you NOT put the coffee grounds in a plastic bag and put it in the garbage. Since it is a biodegradeable product, why not just put it down the garbage disposal? Putting it in plastic turns a biodegradeable item into a non-biodegradeable one. Sorry, just trying to do my part on educating.

This is great advice, but if one is in a studio that is unfortunately not an option.

There aren't any garbage disposals in the studios :sad2:. At home, we have one, but our coffee grounds, etc. go onto our compost pile for our garden. My compromise at WDW is to put both the grounds and any potentially "aromatic" garbage in some of the over-abundant plastic bags we seem to accumulate at WDW; otherwise, even kept overnight is enough to "perfume" the room. :teeth:

we saw it at OKW on one of our trips at building 24. we were only there 3 nts but as we left our room one morning and walked over to the steps and you could smell something . got to the steps and looked over at one of the room doors and there it was a pizza box and lord knows what else under it.
And guess what, it was still there that night when we came back and the next morning. go figure :confused3
talk about lazy. they had to smell something or were just use to it. :furious:

This past summer I was in a studio , so no cooking or such. When it was time for trash and towel day we still didn't have a full trash can.

I went for a short walk at BWV to find the Trash room , I found the ice room but I never found the trash room.

I still have no idea where it is?!?!?!?!

Next trip is a one bedroom , I will find it this trip <G>
