transporting wedding dresses to florida...

how is this done? i read somewhere that brides actually buy a ticket for their dress? also, how do you get information on a dress steaming company in orlando? you guys are great, thanks for all of your help!

I bought a ticket for my dress. The ticket for the dress on Jet Blue was cheaper than shipping the dress to Florida, so I went with it. Also, I didn't have a my dress steamed once I got to FL, so I wasn't keen on shoving it in suitcase or in the overhead as other brides have done.

If you are flying an airline that has first class you can often get the flight attendants to put your dress in the first class cabin, but this if obviously not guaranteed, unless you are flying first class.

As for steaming, many of the girls here have used Carolyn Allen's and have been quite happy with the results.

I bought a good garment bag for my dress and just shoved it up in the overhead bin! Probably depends how big your dress is but I never had any problems.

Mine was too big to fit in the overhead on our first plane to Salt Lake City, so they did end up placing it in the cargo hold underneath. I picked it up as we got off the plane and it wasn't an issue.

We had our dresses steamed through Carolyn Allens and they did a good job.

I am lucky enough that my parents are driving down in a big vehicle so they are takling all of our dresses! One wedding dress, 4 bridesmaids, and 2 groomswomen...and they are all poofy dresses too!

i had mine in the david's bridal garment bag that it came in, and smooshed it into the overhead compartment. i knew that i would be getting it steamed so i didn't mind if it got wrinkled!

I flew Southwest down there, and was able to put my dress in the overhead bin. It wasn't a huge dress and I was able to lay it across the top of the luggage in adjoining overhead bins. Once the passengers realized it was a wedding dress, they were careful not to put anything on top of it. But I did use Carolyn Allens the morning of the wedding, and they were GREAT!!

I shipped my dress via FedEx to Florida. I sent it to Carolyn Allen's. I used them to steam the dress, and to hold the dress until I got down there. I am really glad that I did it that way vs taking it on the plane. When we had to do some photo retakes I flew down with the dress. It was alot for me to handle with everything else.

My bridal shop shipped mine to Carolyn Allens for me. They stored it, steamed it, delivered it, picked it up and shipped it to the cleaners for me. I will receive it back at my door at home when it is done. Well worth the money to not have to mess with it !

I know some people have been able to take it on the plane and have had the flight attendants hold onto it for them -- hang it their little space or something. I suggest checking with the airline you plan on using to see if they would do this for you and if not and you don't want to smoosh it into the overhead then ship it down. But be sure to use somebody like FedEx or UPS (I'd go with FedEx -- they're ever so slightly more reliable) where it is insured and trackable! Do NOT send it through the USPS!

I'm not sure which way to go with the dress. I'm going to have 3 kids with me so carrying it in a garment bag is not an option since my hands will be busy. So that leaves me with packing it in a suitcase to bring with us, or packing it in a box to ship down (I forgot what the resort rules are regarding that-- I think that they won't hold it for over a week prior to your stay). Carolyn Allen's is a must for me I think. I also have all our welcome bags and my husbands suit to deal with too. I'm not sure how much FedEx would charge for a big box like that. I'd like to hear about prices for shipping too.

I wanted to say that mine cost 35-40. I sent mine via Ground vs Air and that makes a big difference. If you do ground though, make sure you leave yourself at least a week or so to arrive at Carolyn Allen's.

I checked with Delta before flying down. Luckily the type of plane we were on had a closet and when I checked in at the gate I asked about it being stored. The flight attendants were more than happy to put it away for me. I did have it steamed by Carolyn Allen the morning of the wedding but it was in pretty good shape.

Im flying United and I called before booking and they said they could hang it up for me once I got on the plane. Im also having it steamed the morning of the wedding.
