Transporting a rented ECV

I will be renting an ECV for my Disney trip in April. On my last trip in 2008, I rented from Walker mobility and was pretty satisfied with the scooter. My only challenges that trip were to get the ECV on and off Disney buses.

This time, I will be spending a day at Universal and would like to take the ECV with me. I'll have 2 adult sons with me to handle any heavy lifting but I'm kind of at a loss as to the best way to proceed.

Should I rent a heavy duty scooter from a company like Walker and try to get some sort of handicapped van transportation back and forth from Universal? Or should I rent a heavy duty scooter from a company like Scooter Orlando which claims the scooter can be disassembled and fit in a car trunk? In that case, I could book a towncar to go back and forth to Universal.

If anyone has experience with this issue, I'd really appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance. :)

Mears, which runs many of the taxicab services, has over 20 accessible (lift or ramp equipped) taxis. You can call them and they will pick you up with an accessible taxi which costs just the same as a regular taxi. The fare is about $40 each way.

Scooters, even the heavy duty ones, can be disassembled to fit into a car. We usually rent an SUV because it is easier to fit the broken down scooter in the back. If it is just Dh and I we get a mid sized SUV and fold down the back seats - with more people we get a standard size SUV. We've rented from Randy's and Walkers and had no problems breaking down the scooter

that dissamble into 5 parts and no one part weighs more than 30 pounds. Those scooters are on the smaller side and they won't give you great leg room, but they are adequate. My hubby around 240 pounds and 5'9" managed with it, but he doesn't have leg issues. This was a scooter (Pride Elite GO-GO) that was easy to work with everywhere in a town car.

I thought Universal rented scooters. At least they did at one time. It's not easy to know where to go for this rental service, but I believe once you enter it's to the left where there's a big, long counter with cast members. Then they bring a scooter from a back area if you want to rent it. I don't know the cost these days, but someone will know here or you can call Universal.

Universal should be able to direct on where to go, etc. I believe there's no rentals in the LA Universal park, but Orlando should be ok.

I want to thank everyone for their answers. I called Walker Mobility this weekend to reserve my scooter. I talked to them about transporting the scooter to Universal. They told me that all their scooters can be disassembled to fit in a car or SUV. I'm going to call one of the towncar services to reserve the round trip. Again, thanks to everyone who replied.
