We are flying into Orlando on the 27th of Feb, our cruise departs the 29th. DO we need to rent a car to get to Port Canaveral or do they have a airport shuttel bus. We plan to stay at a htoel that has a shuttle in the morning to the port. On our way back we are staying at Disney for 4 days. i am asssuming we can take the shuttle from the cruise to the parks. I know DIsney has free shuttles from the airport to the parks do they have the same thing for the cruises? Just wondering what the easiest way would be. We are a party of 8.
Thanks!

DCL transfers cost normally $35pp per leg. They are not free like Magical express for WDW resorts from MCO. For a family it is expensive.

You can go to any WDW resort from Port Canaveral.

Now options.

Private transfers. Like Happy Limo or FLTours.
Taxi.
Rental car and drop off.(Shuttle required)
Rental car and park at port. Maybe cheaper.

I was thinking of renting a car in MCO and dropping off at Port Canaveral. I will check to see how much a private transfer is for the 8 of us. I would neeed a minivan if I rented and I am not even sure our bags wold fit.

Either is good, its what you prefer, there is a 'sticky' thread at the top A/Z DCL FAQ and that in it has links for Port Canaveral and rentals there.

Eight people & luggage you will need to rent something bigger then a minivan. Looking at a 12 pass van.

I agree, I just found a few online and I also put in a quote request from Happy Limo. I figuer 8 people we will have atleast 8 bags counting carry ons.

Since you are flying in a couple of days prior to your cruise, you will be on your own for transportation. It sounds like you plan to stay in the Port Canaveral area pre-cruise? A rental car maybe your best option, but you'd need a van for a group that size (unless you can split into 2 vehicles).

If you want to consider staying at WDW you can use the free ME to get to the resort, then purchase DCL transfer from WDW to port for the cruise. Another option is to stay near MCO, or return there the morning of your cruise, to take DCL transfers from MCO to port.

You can sign up for DCL transfers post-cruise from the port to your WDW resort (not direct to the parks). As mentioned, that is $35 per person each way -- so for a party your size, a limo service might be the least expensive option in both directions.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for all the grea advice. I need to do some numbers and figuer out what is best for us.

Agree -- there is no one "perfect" answer. You'll have to decide the right balance between cost and convenience that works for your party.

So I booked the Comfort Inn Cocoa Beach and got the fly, snooze and cruise deal. For $315, I get transportantion from MCO to the hotel, hotel to the port in the morning and then the day we return back to MCO. We are a family of 4 if I would have taken the disney shuttle it would have been 280 and that did not even inculde a hotel room. I think it is a pretty good deal.

So now my question is, can I take the Magic express from MCO to the resorts even if I am not flying in that day? We are staying 4 days in disney after our cruise.

No you need to use DCL transfer not magical express.

So If I take the free shuttle from my hotel back to MCO I can not get on the magical express? If that is the case then I should take the shuttle from the port to the resort. :earboy2:

YES, you can go back to MCO and then take Magical Express to WDW.

Or you could take DCL transfers from port to WDW and save time, but it sounds like you have free (or included) transport post-cruise to MCO. So that is an option.

Enjoy your cruise!

I just checked the map and I am not really going out of my way to go to MCO and then take the magic express. I will just lose the time of having to wait for the shuttle to leave. Thanks!
