Hi, we're booking a trip to Disney and the POFQ in the coming months. We've got a rather large group of 6 people in two adjoining rooms. Anyways we were wondering what transportation is like to some of the other Orlando attractions, mainly Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure.

Is it possible to get Disney or Universal transportation or are we looking at getting a taxi? Also does anyone know approximate costs?

There are so many of us that we're likely to stay inside WDW the entire trip but I really like the experience at Universal so it's my job to find out these things, and by "find out" I mean ask you experienced DISers.

You may get more replies if you post this over on the Universal boards, but yes, you can get transportation to Universal from Disney. There are a number of options (Universal sells transfers, there is the Lynx bus from the TTC, a taxi, rent a car, use a town car service (www.fltours.com) I think that about covers it.)

Go to the Transportation brd. There is a "sticky" towards the top with commonly asked transportation questions. You'll find help and a taxi fare caluculator.

Taking the Lynx bus to Universal includes transfers which are just not a good idea. But, you can take the Lynx bus directly to SeaWorld. You can get a Mears shuttle to Universal from your Disney resort...perhaps about $13-15 pp. That has to be reserved ahead of time.
Or you can book a towncar service. It was $60+tip for four of us in Oct, but you would need something larger than a towncar with 6 going.
Or perhaps rent a minivan for the day from Alamo at the Dolphin.

We used taxis and it was no bother at all plus not too expensive

You can also rent a car from Hertz.

Personally, if you don't mind driving, it may work out better and you'll have a little more flexibility if you rent a vehicle rather then getting car service or other transportation. I on the other hand, even when staying only at Disney, I rent a vehicle. I love the freedom of not having to wait (except for Valet).

If people want to rent from any other company than Alamo/National, they are going to have to go to DTD. I always recommend the Dolphin and Alamo just because it's relatively easy to get to. But, most assuredly, there are lots of other car rental options in that's the route someone chooses.

If it were me, I'd rent a car.

I'd either rent a car, or use Mears. The thing with a car, you have to deal also with parking fees and gas and such too. Not sure how much a limo or taxi would be.
