Transportation to Pirate Dinner?

Last time we got a taxi, and it cost almost $50.00 round trip with tip. Do we have any other options for getting there and back? We are staying at the Desert Inn.

Thanks,

Traci

I decided to rent a car to get there. We are coming in on amtrak and hertz will pick us up at the station. Cost is 32 including tax etc for one day rental. Plus that saves me on taxi to the hotel and the option to shop at the character warehouse. We will return the car in the morning before going to the park.

I hadn't even thought of renting a car. It sounds like you are doing the dinner when you arrive, but we are doing it on our last night there, so could we rent it Thursday morning and then drive ourselves to the Long Beach airport on Friday instead of taking the Super Shuttle? How does the time work as far as what is considered a day of use? We don't need to be at the airport until 4:00pm, and that is about when we would need it to go to the Pirate dinner on Thursday. Will they bring the car to us at the hotel? We wouldn't be paying Super Shuttle or a taxi which in total is about $90, so it sounds like it could save us some money. And, we have never been to the Character Warehouse. Where is it? Thanks for the idea and help!

You may have some luck with a rental, but probably have to pay for two days.

The Character Warehouse is strait up Harbor at the intersection with Orangethorpe. So about a block north and a 3 miles east of the intersection were Midevil and pirates dinners are in the link above. It has some ok shopping but the inventory varies. In the link below I wrote about what you can find there.

Yes we are renting the car on the first day there. As far as what is considered a day, its usually 24 hours or less. The Hertz car rental is right on Katella, so its pretty convenient and I think right on the ART route. You could always rent the car later in the day on Thursday than on Thursday morning.

Thank you everyone for the help! I am looking into the rental car, but not sure if DH wants to even drive around there :rotfl: It looks like it would def. save us some money, even with having to pay the hotel for one night of parking. I'm all for saving money if I can spend it on something fun :cool1:

Thank you skiingfast for the Warehouse info. I was looking around for reviews on the web and it does sound very hit and miss. Reviews as of late aren't the best, unless you want HSM or Camp Rock stuff, then you've hit the jackpot. If we do rent the car then it's at least worth a trip to see what it's all about I guess. Thanks again!

Miry, thank you for the idea as we had never even thought about it. It looks like on the websites for the rental co. we can pick a "start" and an "end" time, so as long as we worked that out, I think we could do it in a day. I would just time it to get the car about an hour before we needed to get to the Pirate dinner. And, it just so happens that the time we need to be at the airport is at the same time but on the next day, so it may just work. Thanks again for the idea!

I know Grayline Bus tours in Anaheim offers a package with tickets and transportation to the Pirates dinner. I came across this when I was researching a shuttle to Universal Studios. I am staying at the Desert Inn and I know it is one of their pick up and drop off hotels. It would be worth checking out.

Can you tell me more about the pirate's dinner? I looked into it a bit and undecided about whether we should do it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Our kids are 9-11, we're going in two weeks, staying at Hojo.

Katie,

This will be our first time going, but from what I've been told, it is just as good, if not better, than Medieval Times, which we LOVED! Our DD was 9 when we went, and we also went with a family who has a 15yo son. Because the parks close "early" during the week, we find that it gives us something to do and a meal at the same time. We had a blast! They also always have some kind of discount which is nice. If you go during your b-day month then your admission is free, and they have also done specials like adults pay the kids price. The food was okay. At Med. Times you have to eat with your hands, and they served tomato soup in a mug, chicken on the bone, some kind of potato, roll, and a turnover for dessert. They also have different add-ons to make the experience whatever you want it to be. You will not be disappointed!

I will post after our trip and tell you how it was. Hope this helps a bit!

inluvwithbuzz,

I didn't even consider looking at a tour. The only problem would be that we go for our b-days so we get free admission, and we wouldn't be able to do that with a tour. That would be a great way to go though, if we weren't using a special offer. Thanks for the idea!

I think the rental car idea is a great solution for getting to Pirate's Dinner Adventure!

My brother and I did Pirate's Dinner Adventure about 6 weeks ago for his birthday. We both had a great time! My brother and I are grown adults, but the show is very kid-friendly (like Medieval Times), including audience participation if your children are up for it. :goodvibes

Like OregonMickeyLover wrote, they always have discounts of some kind, so make sure to check their website or Facebook page for the latest offers.

Aw, Katiepotatie, my NZ friend... :goodvibes

Try to find a link that offers an AAA 10% off discount (CAA in our case, as Canadians), not sure if NZ has the equivalent, but we were able to receive 10% off of our tours for 'googling' and following a link that offers 10% off for the Grayline Tour, if you are an AAA (or equivalent in your country) member. :) We never did go to the dinner; looked like fun though! We enjoyed 10% off for the Universal Studios transport + admission, as well as 10% off for Sea World plus transport.

Good luck! :goodvibes

*waves to Jory* :yay:

So to get the AAA discount off the grayline tours do we just show them the card when we get there? Or do we have to book online? We were just going to book at Hojos. I hope our NZ AA card counts - will definitely try it!
