I know this has probably been asked a million times, so here's 1,000,001: Does anyone know the cab fare from WDW to say the Shrine? They used to have church services at the Poly, but that's been gone for several years now. Next trip we will be there 2 consecutives Sundays. We've missed Mass when we were there ONE Sunday, but my mother will have a COW if we miss two Sundays in a row!!!

I've taken a taxi to Mary Queen of the Universe from the Boardwalk Resort and it cost about $12.00 plus tip. I have a suggestion. If you take a taxi to church ask the driver to come back and pick you up. We didn't do this the first time and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a cab to come along. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I emailed Holy Family, but I haven't gotten a response yet.

We took a taxi from the Boardwalk to Holy Family Church in Orlando back in June. I had read nice things about the Church here on the Dis and I liked the idea of a 5pm Saturday Mass.
The Church is very nice, but I had no idea how far it was from WDW. Luckily I wrote down the address and had it with me. The taxi driver didn't know where it was and radioed his office for directions. It is very far from WDW and it was $30 each way. I told him we would need a car back to WDW and he waited for us. With a rental car I would have no problem going that far to Church. But if I had to use a taxi again I would go to the (much closer) Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine.

We took a taxi from Pop to the Shrine and was about $13 each way (plus tip). Of course, this year we'll be there for Sunday and a Holy Day (Dec 8), so we'll have to pay twice. The only thing I don't like about the Shrine is the 10-15 minute speech they give about the history of the Shrine and about promoting the gift shop.

I've heard that speech before!!! That's why I thought Holy Family would be better--but I didn't realize it was so much farther away. Looks like it's the Shrine (x2) for us too!

Or how about in the beginning when they ask where everyone is from lol. Actually,i can understand them repeating this sunday after sunday since this church does not have its own parish, it is made up solely from tourists. The gift shop is really nice and the prices in there are very reasonable.

I have never been to services at the Shrine, but have heard that they really ask for money. They get really busy too. My dad went to the outlets next door last month on a Sunday (after breakfast at Boma), and they had a police officer out there directing traffic.

Holy Family is a nice church, although I have never gone to their Saturday vigil Mass. They are closer to Universal (where I live), and quite a distance from most of WDW (unless you are at Saratoga). St. Jude's is a Marion Rite RCC on Dr. Phillips Blvd, also up near Universal. The only other RCC I can think of is St James (I think that's the name) over on Orange Bloosom Trail, N of the FL Mall. Since I work 7 days a week, it is sometimes difficult for me to get to Mass, depending on my Disney schedule. Mass is televised on 2 channels on Sundays - at 10am on UPN channel (6 on Bright House Network), and at 2:30 (full hour, other show is 1/2 hr) on CCN which I think is channel 15 on Bright House.

The "Shrine" may be closer, but according to our parish priest only Holy Family is actually an official Catholic church, as in blessed by Rome. He warned us away from Mary Queen of the Universe as a tourist attraction but not a "real" church in his estimation. You may want to check with your priest (or your Mom's) to see if they think the "Shrine" is the real deal.

Although I have not been to Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine, I am certain that it is an "official" Roman Catholic Church. Before they put up the Shrine they held Mass twice each Sunday at the Polynesian Resort Luau area. I attended many Masses at the Poly and they always talked about how they were trying to get enough money to build their own Church and were very grateful to Disney for allowing them inside WDW.
I am not sure if they have any local parishioners or rely soley on tourists.
My DW and her friend visited WDW in February 2004 and attended Mass at the Shrine. She said the only thing she did not care for was taking up the first fifteen minutes talking about the Shrine and gift shop before starting the Mass. It's location makes it especially easy for WDW guests to attend Mass there. We liked the Mass, people, and the beautiful interior when we attended Holy Family Church back in June. I just had no idea how far it is from WDW.
